Tatoos and piercings?

If so, what do you think about it?

Take care,

I haven't noticed any. I do not know if they even have pierced ears. I don't think it would bother me, except maybe a tongue stud.

He doesn't have any visible piercings or tats. I can't imagine that he has either, but what do I really know about him? I suppose anything is possible. lol

mine doesn't that i know of...but i really don't think she does...but if she did it wouldn't bother me unless it was across her face or something..that would be distracting...otherwise why not?!

she is free to be her own person. express herself any way in which she wants...i would love to get a tat...if i had the extra $$ i would...i doubt my t would stop seeing me because of it (unless maybe it was across my face etc)...

nah wouldn't make a difference at all...& to me unless it is obscene (racially etc) it wouldn't.

Some types of piercings bother me, so I'd probably have difficulty looking at them. That's my own thing though.

I briefly had a therapist who had tats, the stretched earlopes, and some piercing that didn't bother me. I was surprised when I saw him, but that seems more typical of young people these days, so I figured as long as he was good at what he was doing it didn't matter. I guess I must be old and stogey now because I have a preconceived notion of what a therapist should look like, and I guess it's a bit conservative. As long as it's a good fit chemistry-wise, so to speak, and they're able to help me with what I need, I don't think it matters much.

He seemed like a good therapist, but I was looking for a dbt therapist to work with my dbt group to practice and reinforce those skills, and he wasn't at all versed in dbt. He seemed like a good process therapist though, I did have to give some thought about switching.

No my therapist has no body art. She remains "blank" in that area. Opting to wear total black and never wears make up nor jewellery. A proper freudian

No, I have never seen any tattoos on my T. I would probably be OK with it as long as it wasn't offensive (e.g. a swastika).

I am a nurse and when working at hospitals (at least the ones I have been at), we have to cover up our tattoos. All the health workers do--doctors, nurses, dieticians, therapists, etc. It is considered part of the dress code. You can buy arm bands in various sizes and skin tones to cover up your tattoos. If you have tattoos on your hands or face, I don't know what they would do. Of course, therapists based in outpatient clinics or in private practice have a lot more leeway in setting their own dress code.

It wouldn't bother me. I think I can see beyond those things to the real person.

But it did make me laugh picturing my current T with piercings & tattoos .... just SO not him.

No, and it would bother me a lot if she did. I've been very conscious of how my T's look and dress. I know I shouldn't judge them, but I do.

None that I know of but she did give me a "high 5" when I showed her my first tatoo, it's on my arm

I don't know why but picturing my T with some dock off tattoos and facial piercings makes me laugh! Haha, no, I don't think she has any... she doesn't really seem the 'type', but then who does? I'm the one with tattoos, I love them, and T has asked me about them and what they mean. I don't think she disapproves of them, but she's similar age to my parents (they don't have tattoos either) and I guess tattoos weren't as acceptable when they were my age. They've grown in popularity a lot in the last few years, though apparently not amongst y'all here on this board. Interesting to see a few of your reactions, actually - perhaps I need to be more aware of how others do view them (and by proxy, me!) After all, I do want to have some kind of respectable career (though I've not quite worked out what, yet..) Funny that I too had a reaction to the thought of T having a tattoo - when I have half a dozen myself...

I have one tattoo that I got a year ago to symbolize my journal of healing. T loves it. He wants a tattoo, and we talk about it sometimes, but he's worried that it won't be "perfect" and he'll change his mind. We just talked about it at my last session, actually, because he had a tattoo dream

Right now...no tattoos, no piercings.
Thanks for this!

My T does not have tattoos, at least that I know of, but does have one post ear ring he wears. The earring does not bother me at all.( makes him more human to me)

I don't think he does, but then again, I've only seen him with his shirt/pants on.

If he did though, and I saw it/them, it totally wouldn't bother me. I HATE that *I'm* constantly being judged because of how I look on the outside. I want, just for once, to be seen on the inside, and for the outside to not matter (I mean IRL...I'm good to go in therapy). I have a tendency to look beyond outward appearances with people, and immediately look at their character (because that's how I want to be seen), so no, a tat would not bother me.

Just met my T. She' s a really sweet older Philipino lady. Imagining her with tattoos and piercings makes me laugh, i don't think it' s her style, but it wouldn't bother me.

If a therapist had tattoos they would most likely hide them, as they give off a certain impression and even though that impression can be totally wrong, it's still the world we live in. Most organisations would insist in them being covered and anything other than ear piercings be removed. A therpist in private practice may use more leniancy but most clients would be put off.
I am in training to be a therapist and I have a tattoo but it is on my back and would never be seen by a client, so I know it wouldn't affect them or what they thought of me.

Many professions would ask someone with tattoos or piercings to cover or remove them during working hours so it's not just therapists.
Thanks for this!

I would worry about the health risks for any therapist (and anyone) if they have a tattoo. I think I would deal with it okay if any therapist of mine had one. If they had a lot of visible piercings and tattoos I'd be put off and intimidated by it at first, but if they were nice I'd get over it. I might feel sorry for them regarding the health risks though.
