I haven't read the book (just the wikipedia entry about it, although I think I recognized the title of the book that was written in the 60's).

I try very hard, although I know I don't always succeed, to not play any games. I *think* the idea behind the game-playing analysis is that people "play" these games at a subconscious level, not necessarily deliberately and with the intent of playing them or hurting another.

I think that the majority of postings here, even the overwhelming majority, are by people who are honestly trying to support other people the best way they know how. That doesn't always mean cheerleading, or failing to challenge, but I see most people as trying to speak to what it has been like for them in an attempt to empathize, provide insight, or encourage others.

You're really dating yourself if you are still into that book from the 1960's; I remember when it was new

I don't think people can play games by themselves and to have a "partner" you have to get their cooperation and willingness to play? If you mean are people coming here to be parented or have an ego stronger than theirs boss them around or if they are an ego who likes to boss, etc., I'm sure there are even a great many ways more than Bernes' we could characterize ourselves and others but very few that would be useful to us?

Wasn't that about adult parent child? just the different roles people adopt? that really correspond to ego superego id. so not game-playing in the sense of controlling or dangling carrots? which is how I think of that? but I didn't look it up. or are you saying aslan that people are not being honest in presenting their issues? but that wouldn't be the book, then.

Just from my own observations. I see very little in the way of any gameplaying going on these parts.

I rarely look on other parts of this forum so it could be happening elsewhere.

Can't say that I've noticed any 'gameplaying' here... but thanks for reminding me about the PAC model, my therapist told me about that a while ago. It's good to know.
