Just curious--does PC or another site have a discussion board for therapists?

I always have this feeling that T's drop into this board for some free insight (you're welcome.)

I'd love to be a fly on the wall of a T discussion board. What are they saying about us???
Thanks for this!

I wonder this too - but then think that they should all be having 1-1 supervision and maybe they do not need to use the internet and instead use free time to take care of themselves.

Isn't that what supervision is for? Do all Ts have a supervisor? I never heard of a T having one until I saw my current T and she mentioned asking her supervisor for advice on helping me. I was a little ticked at first until she said it's confidential and she doesn't give my name. I'm still a little confused on the supervisor thing, but most things confuse me lol
Thanks for this!

my T said the same thing..at first I thought it meant I was such a wacko that she needed to find someone else to fix me. But...actually it just meant my T really cares and wants to find the best way to help me..
nothing wrong with it, and it shows T cares

However good a T is, 1-1 work can sometimes lead to feelings arising in T's that can impact on boundaries and so it is important that they maintain open discussion about their feelings / emotions with a supervisor. This does not necessarily have to be someone senior to them, but just someone who can work with the T to help them reflect and ensure that they are acting in the clients interests.

More junior T's may also seek supervision to explore issues if they feel they are stuck with their client and look for guidance from their supervisor.

For both, the clients identity would need to be protected and not shared with the supervisor - that should always remain confidential unless the T has significant concerns about their safety, or the safety of someone else, or if a court of law orders the release of information.

My T is part of a practice - other T's, LCSW, psych nurses, pdocs. He said that once a week over lunch they take turns getting together for 1 1/2 hours and presenting difficult or unusual cases and asking for feedback/advice. Not all T's have supervisors - mine does not at this time.

I don't think my T has a suprvisior.. There are about 4 or 5 other couselors ranging from psy.d, phds, lcsw, etc. However the name of the pracitce is my T's name and another Ts.. and the other T just retired, I wonder if that makes him.. "the boss?" I wonder also, if he has people to talk about what he does.. if he has a t himself. Oh, how I would love to lurk on a message board for Ts!!!

I work at an agency in which we have supervision. There are also consultation groups that get together. Yes there are boards for therapists, though not often have I seen it use to "staff" client needs, confidentiality and all. But they can be used as resource locators, interesting article posts, some venting of frustration, etc.

My T doesn't have a supervisor. He does teach classes to other T's. I know he does consult with the psychiatrist in his office from time to time about cases though.

My T has talked about her supervisor. She said it's another therapist she's known for 6 years and who she really trusts. She says she meets with her once a month or so.
Thanks for this!

I've seen different forums for different kinds of therapy; but the posts i read were more about therapy styles or how to do particular things more than indepth discussion about client cases. I would imagine that with confidentiality of clients some would try to be really careful with what they shared online

I might be making too BIG of an assumption.. lol... but, I always assume my T has allll of the supervision she needs....Her father owns the center and has been a liscenced therapist for years and her mother works in the office as a liscensed therapist as well. There's plenty of other therapists who work there but, i have found that interesting since day one. Like, normally I wouldn't want a young therapist-- she's in her late 20's ( 28, 29, maybe 30?) probably but, I'm 22 and I figured since she has parents who do it, she's probably a natural...

It's more than that. They aren't taking new registrations of mental health practitioners. So only the people who have already registered are able to access the site. Maybe they'll allow new registrations at a later time. Or maybe the community just grew very big and they had to limit it. Who knows!
