What I really like about WAIS is the several things it could be used for. Not only does it give you a hint where your intelligence is, but also what kinds of issues you might have. It tests so many things that it is quite easy to pinpoint where your strengths and weaknesses are. It is used here as part of diagnosing Asperger's, because those people tend to have a specific uneven WAIS profile while being overall clever.

I can so relate to that, because I got a stunning 100 % on the verbal part, and I totally "failed" the math part. My test leader was like Since you did so well on the other parts so far, we start a little higher on the math. I eeep'ed. LOL. And she said something in terms of What is 486+632? Err... how would I know? So she lowered the level while I said; Start really low! And she did. And I got a few correct.

Uneven profile. You bet!
Thanks for this!

Similar results here--near perfect verbal and abysmal math scores...however, I do well on any 3d-conceptual/spatial tests , the only "math" I am good at.

I think you mean: by far the most intelligent.
Or maybe they meant that you lived further away than the other testers...

Intellectual intelligence is certainly great to possess, but it is only a part of the overall picture that contributes towards 'success'.
Luce, you might want to read Daniel Goleman's book, Social Intelligence. I believe it to be a critical book for all individuals to read who are raising children in this very competitive world. I wish I had access to it earlier in my life because I KNOW that I would have raised my own son differently. It is a very powerful book. I say this because I believe that as a society we pretend to say that intelligence isn't important or critical, we downplay in ourselves, but in reality, we all honor and worship it. We see it as the signal of wonder and achievement. . .. we fail to see the isolation and believed or precieved failure in the IQ score. Said from a person who has admistered and interpreted psycho-educational assessments for thirty years![/quote]

Jaybird,
I loved that book! It explains in depth how humans interact nonverbally without realizing it. I thought it was fascinating

Yeah I don't think much about IQ testing- I've been tested (not sure which test and don't remember the score- just that I was smart enough). That's what counts I think- are you smart enough or not? Plus it changes throughout your life- I bet now my score would be lower than before.
There are like 7 types of IQ- depending on whose counting. And no I don't think it's unfair that ppl with higher emotional intelligence are generally more successful in life. Why should it be?

I took the test a few years ago and scored 142. I thought it was interesting because my dad had taken the test decades earlier and also scored 142. Since then, it's became a joke between us. When he tries to give me advice I'll say: "Dad, I don't have to listen to you! You aren't any smarter than I am!" And then we'll both burst out laughing. He also likes to say: "Gee, kid, you're a lot like your father. That's terrible!"

I am wondering that in what way were you guys tested in the vocabulary and math sections of the test? Were they mental math problems as well as definitions for the vocabulary? How were the highest level math questions like?

Also, im interested to know how many numbers you guys recalled in digit span and what percentile it put you in... If perhaps you don't remember, can one give me an estimate (e.g. what percentile would you be placed in remembering 8 digits?)?

I apologize for putting this on a separate post, the question just came to me.
