Just need to "think out loud" and looking for ideas to get myself motivated to do my homework for t

Last session t and I talked about working on what I call "past crap." (i.e. stuff from that past that repeatedly comes up and triggers me). But I told t I needed to journal about it more before I could talk about it. (Avoidance on my part). So have I been doing any writing about that at all? Not one word.

I've decided I feel like an emotional case of that show Hoarders on A&E. I've hoarded up emotions from the past and packed them in so tight that I have no idea what is at the bottom of the pile anymore. I just don't want to deal with it.

My next appointment with t is on Wednesday...need to get myself motivated to start thinking and writing or I'll try to do it all the night before. That never turns out well.

"past crap" "emotional hoarders" - i'd watch those shows! (and I don't even like the history channel!)
Thanks for this!

It's like archaeology. The recent stuff is on top. Start with that.

Don't expect to be able to reach the really old stuff until you've cleared the rest away.

this is really good advice!

Sconnie, maybe you could take just one thing that set you off recently, and work backwards into the old stuff just there. It's a start. good work, keep going!
Thanks for this!

Yes - this is a great way to look at it. Thanks

Good idea. I'm going to do that the next few days. I am so tired of this past stuff creeping back in that I just want to jump in and deal with it. But I ended up getting triggered when I tried that, got scared, and stopped working on it.

I am also trying to remember what my t said last session when we discussed working on this past stuff. I can't remember her exact words, but it was something to the effect of "This (working on the past) is not going to always feel good. It's going to be hard."

Don't sit with the idea of writing about all that; do some free writing instead: http://web.mst.edu/~gdoty/classes/co...e-writing.html

It will probably take you to where you need to go for right now.

Just write a thought stream.. Whatever comes to mind.. I do that a lot and T tells me a lot is there. Just a thought stream- and you can chip away at it.
