has anyone ever particiapted or went to one of these? i seen a brochure for one in my area at the clinic i see T at. its for an entire WEEK and you do breathwork, psychodrama, group therapy and individual therapy. i asked my T about it and she didnt have a ton of info on it but said they can be very helpful to people with trauma. i guess the idea is to speed up the process you intensely work through your trauma in one week? anyone know anything about these?

Does sound interesting but expensive; the one I looked at (in West Virginia) is $4,000 for a week and insurance doesn't cover it (has 35 hours of individual therapy in the week, a normal year's-worth for some insurances :-)

There was a paper/study written by one of the practitioners in West Virginia after the first 72 people had been through the program:

I say if you have the interest and the money, go for it.

i think T said it was around $3000 for this one. again, she's not the one putting it on so im not sure.

i dunno....i like the idea of it being more of a longer process than just 50min a week where it takes me 20min to warm up and by the time im getting comfortable its time to leave and then im on my own the rest of the week and have to start all over the next week. HOWEVER, the idea of doing it in a group setting with other people kind of freaks me out. I have a hard enough time opening up to T let alone in front of 10 other people. And once I hear their problems I will totally dismiss my own and feel like I have no reason to be there etc, etc.

If im going to intensely look at me i need it to be about ME....not me and 10 other people.

I would much rather pay T $3000 to intensely do therapy with just me for a week. It would force me to look at me instead of hiding in the back and letting everyone else talk and deal with their stuff.

Hmmmm....i wonder if a T would ever do that?

The one I was looking at above, with 35 hours of individual therapy, sounds like that would come to like 5 hours a day? I think I would love some group therapy after that to get the focus off of me all the time :-) I don't think they just talk; the one above, the therapist who wrote about it was an art therapist and I'd imagine everyone would do that at once and maybe that would be the "group" aspect? I could deal with sitting in a room drawing stuff with other people.

this one is 40hrs total but thats not all individual therapy. i think i would be ok with it if it was more group oriented assignments together...like the art stuff or making a trauma egg or things like that but then when you're actually discussing your life and your "stuff" id rather it be one on one.

also, i wondered what happens in the middle of a group thing if someone breaks down or has a major flashback.....the rest of the people are just stuck sitting there watching you have a "moment"?

hmmmm.......................

I don't think it is like "usual" therapy so don't know how far one can compare. The one I read, they teach you how to deal with the triggers and yourself, etc. instead of make then go away; they said something like "we can change the way you think about what happened but not what happened".
