“For having lost so much time, you have
the greater need of diligently improving what time yet remains” Jonathan Edwards

I think this is true. When I think of all the wasted yrs, I want the now and onwards to be so different! This is what drives me on in therapy.
Thanks for this!

Hmmm...

Do you need the extra pressure of thinking you have to make up for lost time?

And was that time really lost?

On my little, dim-screened iPhone, I read this as "gout". Thought you were gonna talk about your sore toe.

I like this quote. We have all (regardless of our age or our past accomplishments) lost/wasted time. If only we could have some of those moments back- the ones when we wasn't properly appreciating them, not mindful or in the moment.

I must be the oddball. The awareness of lost time and limited future sends me right into panic and distress.

You're not a very good procrastinator, then? Coming close to a deadline is when I speed up and smooth out.

I generally work well under pressure.

But I don't see a deadline. I see nothing ahead.

Exactly how I read it. Glad to hear you don't have gout, earthmama!

it is within those weakness from our past that we learn to navigate through our strengths-- to reject one part of life is to reject the other simultaneously- to wish it could be different is normal though, I do too -- but, if we wish it we're different- then this very moment in the present and how we perceive the world in the now would be different also. I think it's great that by using your knowledge of time in the past, you are allowing yourself to create a better future.

I see it like a seesaw and the lost time is weighing me down and I have to tip the seesaw. However, I still waste some time or get bored or don't want to work, etc. so the fulcrum moves and makes it harder and harder to make up the lost time.

We get into habits and I got into the habit of retreat when I was a kid and didn't figure things out until my late-30's and undoing the bad habits and installing good habits, just to get even will take until my mid-70's (38+38), if I work diligently, and I'm only 61 and it's getting harder because the energy and drive aren't as there as they were in my late-30's and 40's when I began the turnaround.

well my role models for this are my T and that black weight lifter lady - T says she inspired HIM! my problem has always been, I become manic as I get physically healthier and that both feels uncomfortable and I start shooting my mouth off and everything else gets out of control - you know. Overeating again was the only way I knew to calm myself back down. I might try increasing my mood stabiliser this time, see if that helps. Any other ideas?

Me too. Instant panic attack.
And yet I do it to myself all. the. time. I really don't deserve to get help.
