My CBT therapist reads all my emails... Which can reach up to 10 a day. I know this cause he can quote them all. Anyway he replies to whatever he thinks is necessary or whenever I ask for one. He texts too, no difference really it all goes to his iPhone.

It varies. My therapist allows me to email whenever I want, but with the stipulation that I don't expect a reply. Most of the time I don't get a reply. But it helps me so much to write it out and send it to her, because I know she reads it, and when I need to feel connected it serves that purpose. I can imagine her reading it and caring about me.

When she does respond, it's usually very brief, but warm. There have been a few times that the distress in my email prompted her to call me.

The way it's set up works well for me.
