I have no idea. We don't email. I'm in education though, and almost all of us have disclaimers concerning confidentiality via internet correspondence. I would guess that is or probably needs to be pretty standard if you are a professional discussing confidential information via email. In fact, all parents in our district have to sign a confidentiality statement concerning email correspondence with district employees. It just can't be guaranteed, as much as we would like to be able to.

Disclaimers don't prevent suing. It just gives us more to argue about. And not all, or even most, clients who sue therapists are whack jobs. I have seen clients do all Sorts of mental gymnastics and things to protect the therapist and to try to justify the whacko stuff the therapist was doing.

You are absolutely right. I am sorry if I offended anyone, I just wasn't thinking. I went back and edited the comment, thanks for pointing it out.

Most times there is no signature, just the standard "Sent wirelessly from my BlackBerry device on the *** network". A few times my T has signed her first name.

My T just signs her first name, almost always following 'kind regards'.. occasionally I get kindEST regards ![]() No disclaimer, and I'd hate it if my T added one.. it would feel so... businesslike... |

We don't generally use our names in addressing or signing our emails. We did last year but it has become more like just a dialogue and only once in a while for emphasis use names.

He doesn't do "email therapy" so emails are only for scheduling issues. His signature is simply his three initials.

This is interesting. I went back and looked at the emails t has sent me (weekly scheduling/payment emails and that is it) because I never really notice. She signs "warmly", or "take care" followed by her first name. Then her automatic sig follows with her full name, credentials, website and phone number. One time there was a disclamer attached but only once.
I sign with no closing, just my first initial. But my automatic sig (from work, where I usually contact her) has my full name, credentials and a huge long paragraph disclaimer. I wish I could get rid of it, but I can't. |

Mine always closes by sending me some sort of hug depending on what's going on for me. For example recently, "a safe journey hug" and "a kind and loving hug." She never signs her name and there is no info with her phone number, etc.. She does have a huge confidentiality clause at the end. It used to bother me for the formality, but the rest of her email is less formal and I'm used to it now. She probably even forgets that it's there as it's automatic when she sends any email.

Mine just does take care or best regards depending on the context of the email then his first name.

Our T doesn't have a disclaimer or anything. She just signs her 1st name (or our nickname for her), sometimes initials, sometimes with an adjective (i.e., K the stressed out T, or K the Happy T. She signs Warmly, Love, Take Care, or Hang in there!!, things like that.

Mine either doesn't sign, uses her first initial, or signs her first name.
Occasionally says "Take care" or "See you *whenever*" or "Have a good week(end)". And always: Sent from my *carrier name* Blackberry My own work signature is quite long. No disclaimer, but name, title, employer, phone #, website, email address
