I have never asked to see my file or the notes I assume my T takes(guess I never felt the need to) but I am curious... I know I can just ask my T but I was wondering if anyone here ever asked or saw their file.

My T is not a notetaker.

My T takes notes in between sessions. I've never asked. I don't even want to know. I'm almost positive he would say no anyway.

My t used to take notes and let us see them( we were sitting next to her on the couch anyway) and we could draw or write in her notebook if we wanted.
Then we asked her to stop writing things down ( long story) so she stopped writing notes.
Thanks for this!

My T takes a few notes at the beginning of our sessions, general observations about mood, etc. He must do the rest between sessions. My T reads his notes to me from time to time far various reasons. They really aren't terribly exciting. They tend to be quick, rather general notes about my mood, topics we discussed, or insights that were made. Nothing I don't already know anyway. He usually writes I guess 5-10 lines about each session, much of it in phrases and all. It really isn't a big deal or mystery. They come in handy when we are trying to remember where we were on a certain topic because my memory of our sessions is horrible, he uses them to trace when a mood episode started, etc.

My T writes very little but I will admit to being curious about his notes. I've never quite figured out why he writes in response to some of the things I've said. He also seems to places his notes in various places on the piece of paper. I've wondered if there's significance to that, too. I've never asked to see them, though, and I doubt I ever will.

I really do prefer when he puts down his clipboard and just listens and talks to me. Sometimes it feels like the clipboard separates us somehow.

Thanks - my T does not take notes in front of me but my PDoc does - I guess the difference between the two just interested me.

I've asked to look at my file at some future date. She shot me down at first, but I think we've agreed that when I'm done with therapy, she'll give them to me. That's fine with me. No note-taking during session.

My T takes notes, but I believe they are just general words or paraphrases of what I have shared...to help keep him stay on track and keep me focused. Esp if it is a big point.
I really never thought about it.
my pdoc takes notes...more like writing down my responses to a checklist keeping track of my well being and general health.

I never thought about it in terms of asking if I can read them. Probably because with T it is so hard or painful to talk about things...seeing them in writing seems like it would be a million times worse...

I sort of equate it to speaking to the wind with benefits of healing or water under the bridge. Once it is resolved I dont want to revisit it. Probably because it hurts too much.

T1 never takes notes, sometimes I think she should t2 took notes our first session but he is way more qualified than t1 and this is so much more obvious after only 2 sessions! T2 told me he was going to take notes on first session only!
Thanks for this!
