I just finished reading chapter 7 of The Emotionally Absent Mother and it lead me to a breakthrough. Chapter 7 is the first chapter related to healing what the book calls, "original pain". It identifies this pain as a wound; one that is difficult to touch because it hurts very badly to touch it.

I've been telling T for several months now that I've been aware of a "darkness within" that I cannot seem to access. It feels like a grieving in which tears won't come; they are stuck. I now realize that is my "mother wound"...and unconsciously I have been terrified to access and identify it.

So now I've identified it, I hope T can help me access it. If anyone has any advice or experience in doing so, I would love to hear it. If not, I appreciate anything anyone has to say.

Naming your pain is very important step.

I'm really excited about it...not that I'm thrilled about pain, but something has to give soon. Now that I'm aware of the wound and know what the wound is, it's time to heal it. It's festered for way too long!!

I haven't read any of it; i did read some reviews that talked about exercises and the value of having someone who could give some kind of mothering now eg. Friend, older female etc i wondered if for you having that kind of mother figure with your T helps in reading this even while it is going into the darkness?
I hope she will help you through this also
