As I've written before. A few yrs ago to help bridge the gap during T's absences she offered to send a postcard if I thought it would help? I shy to accept nodded yes!!! And she has kept to that. Even if when on a break (she takes all the school holidays as breaks) she hasn't gone away she will send cards from exhibitions she has gone too.

This summer is no different. The postman came yesterday and one of my daughters collected the post and passed it to me and asked who the postcard was from? I said my therapist. My daughter asked if she sends everyone a card? I replied no only me with a big grin lol. My daughter replied "aaww that's nice", and yes she's right, its very nice. T is in the south of France at the moment. :-)
Thanks for this!

That's not needy. That's having a need met. Big difference I think.

I told T about your postcard, he's going on vaca next week with his gf, I told him I would give him a stack of SASE postcards to send back to me, already written, "Having a wonderful time, wish you were HER" like my 2nd H sent to a former gf when we went to Niagara Falls. THAT would be needy. I told him the only reason he wanted to see me for extra sessions before his trip was to get acclimated to having the one he loves THE MOST around all the time, so he doesn't get irritated with his gf (familiarity breeds contempt). And that I was glad I was that person. I don't know if that's needy or just insane. We decided on self-deprecating (humor), and not feeling like a member of my own family.

That is really cool, earthmamma! What a nice thing for T to offer and follow through on!

This is the end of T's 3rd week away. Next week is her last then we're back. As I posted she sent her regular post card, & today I received an email saying she hoped I was well and thought I might like "this" photo.

I love that she does that. It has that holding feeling to balance out the 4 week break.

How very nice to get a postcard from your T. Does it feel different to receive it this year, compared to other years?

Also, what a sweet exchange between you and your daughter. It's nice when our kids see that others care about us and value us

Receiving the card & email doesn't feel different. But how I have been during this 4week break has felt better. I have a keen sense of continuance this time, with a greater feeling of calm inside. And yes thank you it was a nice exchange with my daughter.
Thanks for this!

It is nice when we can feel good when T is away. You have always had to endure long separations. I love that your T sends you a postcard.

My T is going to Europe in 2 weeks. Just for a week, but I would love it if she would send me a postcard!

That is awesome! You are blessed to have such a wonderful T who will do that for you. My T has been away for the last two weeks. I was feeling really down at my last session before he left (unrelated to his vacation) - and he didn't even give me the name of a back-up T that I could reach out to in his absence.

To get a postcard and an email? WOW.....
