Hi Everyone,
Sorry I didn't get back to you guys yesterday. I was so exhausted last night I fell asleep with the computer on my lap at like 8 at night!
The day program tour yesterday did not go well. The place was just too chaotic. I was under the impression from their website that this agency had two separate programs, one for those with developmental disabilitys and one for those with mental health concerns. And that the mental health concerns one was you know for anyone in general, not necessarily those with developmental issues.
Well it seemed from my tour there that the programs were all one big program for those with developmental disabilitys. I didn't come across one client who didn't seem to be without some sort of developmental issue. And there were just so many of them! In a fairly small space. The atmosphere was just way too chaotic and overwhelming. The building reminded me of the old used to be warehouse type building that my former therapist's studio was in, long twisty hallways tight quarters.
I could see after my tour that the director was right, and had a valid point about it being a safety issue for me. The other clients there just didn't know how to handle a girl with a cane, I mean they had more trouble than most people due to what was going on with them. The director had to guide me around them as they just kind of stood there, or in the case of one eager friendly young woman with a vaccum just step back and wait for her to speed on by!
So it was basically a waste of time. The intake worker's supervisor just basically gave me the info for two mental health places that I feel everyone gets sent to that aren't that great.
Today's dance therapy session was wonderful! This therapist was so nice to offer me three sessions for free! She's 75, but so energetic and just wonderful to work with. The hour flew by in her cozy office. She had a drum and other instruments to play with, different figurines to work with, and of course we did dance and movement stuff. I really loved working with her.
So I really hope that my tour of day program 2 goes better!

Hi MKAC,
YYeah, me too! You all should have seen this lady, she was so cool! She trained in so many different modalitys after college, because she said she wanted to do things "her way," She's not licensed, but as I said she's trained in so many different things: dance and other expressive arts therapies, internal family systems, somatic experienceing, and others. She even worked in the prison system for five years. She said the guys came in with a big attitude like she wasn't going to show them anything, and left the first session huging her! I can imagine why.
