I have some silly questions

Is group therapy and support groups the samething?

If not- do the both have a T who manages the group?

How did you get involved with either or both groups?

Do they cost money?

I am considering a group setting to talk about my trauma.. I guess I am wondering if anybody has good experience with being in a group setting for therapy and if it was/is helpful?

Group T and support groups are not the same. And there are different types of group therapies as well. My group therapy is gestalt-based, so it's a "process oriented" group that's quite different from the idea of a typical support group.

Groups are typically run by a T or a facilitator of some kind.

I became involved in group T at the suggestion of my T who also runs the group.

I pay $40/session for group T....which is much less than what a typical individual T session would be in my area. I see my T individually once a week as well, though.

Hi ~ Mixed up is right. Group therapy for me was run by the psychiatrist. A support group is run by a "chairperson" who usually is a lay person who has the same problem as everyone else but perhaps has more time in the group as everyone else. That's been MY experience.

My Group Therapy was covered by my insurance, and I was inpatient at the time too, so i have no idea how much it cost.

I wish you the very best. Hugs, Lee

Do you know of any support groups for communications and social connection?
