I agree one should give up trying to be whatever anyone else wants. That is never a plan for one's own good. And it is never going to be enough. What others want is their problem, not yours. Could you focus on what you want instead?
Thanks for this!

I'm feeling a lot like that this week too. I don't even purposely try to be what my therapist wants, but I think I end up doing that anyway. I do my very best, but during the last appointment she's frustrated and angry with me. She used both of those words. I might not be doing very well, but it has been my best effort and I can't do better than that. It really hurts to feel like no matter how hard I try, it's still not good enough. I'm sorry you're feeling that way too!

In what context did she say that? Did you discuss what you wrote in the first thread post and this was her reply?
Thanks for this!

granite, you're funny. my friend's son was always telling her, "mom, you think too much!" I didn't know such a thing was possible, but apparently these slacker california kids think it is! "think too much!" like t at's possible? what does that even mean? was there some point you were supposed to stop at?? "don't think too much, you might hurt yourself!" idk

Maybe your T just wants you to be yourself.

Of course, I know how hard it is to figure out who "yourself" actually is...but I betcha your T could help you to explore that!
