parents can be so inordinately stupid sometimes - or at the minimum wildly out of touch with their children.

I am upset at your mother for being mad at you. It sounds like an utter horrifying trip home.

Your mother likely feels guilty and rather than deal with her own feelings, she is minimizing yours.

That makes me grumpy.

You sound like a very resourceful young lady who, when faced with a big problem AND emotional upset, was able to help yourself.

That ability will carry you a long long way. That self-reliance and inner courage is one of your biggest assets.

You did not fold. You did it.
