Hi Everyone,
I'm sorry I've been away since Sunday. Saturday night I had what we (nursing staff where I live and hospital staff and I) believe was a seizure. I was sitting on my bed doing computer stuff one minute, and then I was laying on the floor. I don't remember falling or biting my tongue. I don't know how long I was out for either, as when I checked the time it was an hour after the last time I had checked the time, so it could have been anywhere within that hour. I thought I was fine, and so did the CNAS. But the nurse the next day convinced me to go to the hospital, so I did. I thought I'd be in and out. I ended up being admitted. I had every brain scan possible, had my blood drawn many times and everything looked fine. They think it could have been a freak thing, or caused by the welbutrin that lowers seizure threshold. The hospital doctor cut my dose in half until I see my pdoc again. They said I can stay on it as long as I don't have another eppisode. Which is good because welbutrin has really worked for me. Anyone have any experience with other meds that work like it, just in case? Anyway, I handled the whole thing very well. Staff where I live and from the community mental health program I go to were all very supportive these last couple days. And the hospital staff were amazing. They loved working with me as much as I liked them. I learned that an MRI really isn't as scary as I thought it was. And Ativan is really helpful for mellowing you out. That's what they gave me before the MRI. I didn't feel drugged at all, just kind of floaty. Anyway, so that's where I was the past few days. And hopefully this won't happen again. If I do need to go to the hospital again I know now that it's an ok place.

i have a seizure disorder and one of tell tale signs of one occurring is that you have bitten your tongue.
i have quit going to the hospital for them, but when i do, (some unsuspecting nice soul, takes me there) the dr. is always excited when they find out you have bitten your tongue. kinda takes the guess work out of it for them... i hope you don't have anymore, but mine are now controlled by meds. good luck and sending safe hugs |

Wow, sorry to hear that. Glad to hear things sound okay for now. I researched the heck out of Wellbutrin before I took it. It's scary that it can do that even though it doesn't usually. I liked it too. I like that it's been around longer than the other drugs, 20 years, so if there are long term effects, it may be more likely they'll be discovered sooner than with the drugs that haven't been around as long.

I'm sorry you had that reaction. I was worried when I was taking wellbutrin, I'm off it now.
I'm glad you did not find the MRI to be scary. I thought it had a good beat and you could almost dance to it, as they used to say about new songs on American Bandstand when I wasa teenager! It has a certain rhythm to it that repeats that I found comforting. I'm glad you're back and hopefully okay. ![]() |

I'm glad you are doing well. That sounds pretty scary!
MRI's make me laugh. Even though I don't like the tight fit - especially if you have to have your hands up over your head - when the machine starts making it's banging noises, I can hardly keep from chuckling. It just is such a goofy, clumsy sound for a machine that is so sophisticated ![]() Last edited by ECHOES; Mar 27, 2013 at 09:17 PM. |

Glad your well. I have claustrophobia so find MRI's a bit scary. Probably lucky you didn't go to our local hospital they think everyone is a drug addict.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the good wishes and support! JMB, yeah I read that about biting your tongue. And the doctor said especially if you bite the side and not the tip! Though I read online that it's actually a myth about someone swallowing their tongue during one. It was really really scary. When I came out of it I felt so weak and shaky and my heart was pounding. Is that how you feel? Hankster, you would say something like that about the MRI! (smile) Honestly, I think it was the atavan, but I really didn't think much about the noise. The earplugs helped, and yes some of the sounds startled me, but you're right there is a rhythm and I like that the tech person says how many minutes each one will be. And I agree with whoever said that it's a really funny sound for something like that to make. I mean it doesn't sound like what I would imagine a magnet sounding like! I just hope this doesn't happen again. I had asked the pdoc about seizure risk too now that I think of it. He brushed me off as he does. It's really time to actively try and find a pdoc that, even if I don't love him, I at least trust him/ he speaks english well! Medicade sucks sometimes for this kind of thing! But I don't want something like this to happen again if we can help it. One of the neurologists I saw pointed out that due to my premature birth (24 weeks) my brain could have some slight predisposition to seizures even though I've never had one, and the welbutrin just kind of did it! The Pdoc didn't ask about any of this, and like I said I always feel brushed aside when I ask him stuff.
