I'm used to calling an office and an admin answer the call and then you make an appointment. Apparently there is a new thing where the psychs are doing thier own scheduling and the admin passes along your information and then the doc calls you. Wth?

I have never seen a therapist with a receptionist. All of the ones I have seen have made their own appointments.
Is there a reason why this change is bothering you?

Not really bothered I would say, just missed the instant gratification of having an appointment made during both phone calls to a pdoc and a new t....plus I get the lingering irrational thought that I won't get called back.

That's generally how it's done for me. I didn't know this was unusual. Normally my Pdoc will schedule the next appointment himself at the end of a session, unless he has to rush off somewhere in which case he'll leave instructions with the receptionist. If I have to reschedule, I usually get put through to his rooms, if he's able to take the call, or a message is left for him and either he rings me back or one of the receptionists or other Psychs do.

I am used to dealing with an office environment with an assistant making the appointments. I prefer that since its what I'm used to but I think it also sees to it that appointments are made more quickly and the scheduling is organized. That's a lot for the T to handle themselves if they have a large practice.

My T works in an office building with a front desk that handles calls for multiple different businesses. So, when I call her office, I just ask for my T and am put through to her office phone. She doesn't have an assistant and handles all calls and scheduling herself. Fortunately, she's very prompt about returning calls. I have a standing appointment time with her, but if I need to reschedule, we take care of that at the beginning or end of a session. If I realize I need to reschedule on short notice or want an extra appointment, I just call T and we work it out. Usually, I'll leave her a message and if she doesn't have time to return the call, she'll text me with her openings and I'll text back with which time works for me.

My long term T has a receptionist who helps schedule appointments but usually she would schedule the next one at end of session. My current T does all the scheduling on her own.

I like getting the call back from my therapist when I have to reschedule an appointment, gives me a chance to her her voice.
