>>Sorry if wrong forum section<<

So i've been battling with kinda bad depression and sui thoughts/feelings since a few years ago, l had a year where it wasn't intense then it flared up again towards the end of last year.

Anyone know if I have to go to the doctors to apply for Mitigating Circumstances for university or can my T write a letter?

Reason I ask is there is enough crap on my medical record without me adding to it.

Thanks for any replies in advance.

My doctor got me extra time to complete a placement for university. Are you looking for extra time to complete something or something else? Unless your T is a PHD, I think you're going to need a letter from a doctor. Do you have a Pdoc? That would work.

I know in the UK, the counsellor at university can do an extenuating circumstances application for you.

Take care x

Don't know how's it in the UK...
Here you can just ask your GP- they'll write you a note saying you need this because of a medical reason. Nobody has a right to know what kind of reason- your health is a private matter.
Your T can write that too - provided he's licenced- but then everybody knows why- and I wouldn't feel OK with that.
Anyway, just ask at the UNI's administration desk, they must know it and can help you with that.

Hey thanks for the reply - Yeah I think I need an extension on an assignment due in for the end of the month. I'm trying my best to complete it before its due in but my problems its really hard to sit down and focus/concentrate.

Naah my T is qualifed up to Master's level in the UK rather than a PHD...

I'm gonna speak to student support on Tuesday and see what they say, but from a bit of google research for my uni it says for an extension of work a doctors note or counsellors report can be used as evidence but this is a quote from the academic year 2011 - 12 so they might have changed it up.

However my concern is that i've only seen my T 5 times and I have a feeling they might question that? *sigh*

Let alone me even asking my T to do a report..

I do have prior history on my NHS record but that's irrelevant I guess.

I feel so crappy for even considering applying for extenuating circumstances..

Guess Tuesday is D Day for finding out where I stand. Thanks again.

Good luck! Honestly, there are a lot of people in the same position. Does your university have a disability services department (probably connected with counselling) ? I know that seems really out in left field (well, to me, anyways as I'd never viewed my issues as a disability) but if you register with them, if issues like this come up again, they can help you out.

Let us know how it goes!!
