My T never gives advice but if I ask him he will try to enlighten some difficult situations further for me; but that's all!

Maybe you could try this in small steps - like offer to apartment-sit for a friend going on vacation, if they have plants or pets.

That sounds like great "advice," Hankster.

I have a little dog, and she is fantastic! They are great company and can really help with things like depression, anxiety, loneliness, fear, etc.

My T won't give advice even if I ask her...and I ask her all the time. I've lived my life trying to figure out what other people want me to do or think I should do, so I know she does it for my own good...but I'd love to have her give me advice. She used to very kindly direct me to focus on what I thought instead of what she thought. We've worked together for a long time though, so now she usually comes out with a very funny and very sacrastic reply that makes me go "OK fine! I'll think about it!". And then I do, and we talk through it, and I'm really glad she makes me look inside myself for answers instead of finding them from her. She did tell me one time "As your therapist I would strongly discourage you from doing that" but I was talking about seeing a whole group of my past abusers and putting myself right in the center of it again. I knew it was a bad idea...I just needed someone to tell me it was okay to upset all of them and not go. That is the one and only time she's said anything.

Very small baby steps I would like to do this in the future but don't think I am ready to be alone with myself so much right now but when I do move out I will totally get a dog- I love dogs.

This was a no-win situation for Madame T. First she wouldn't give me advice and then she gave me the wrong advice.
