My T missed my appointment! She wrote down 1pm and then wrote 2pm on my card! Grrr. Oh well I wasn't feeling therapy today anyways. I wonder how many T make these mistakes?...after all they are humans too.

Sorry that happened to you. My therapist also did it once.

As far as I see, they all make these sorts of mistakes. It still hurts even if it was an innocent mistake. This is not to say get rid of the therapist, but if there is a feeling associated with the situation, it is still valid as a feeling.

Mine would usually reschedule for Saturday morning if she had to. I loved Saturday sessions; they were so comfortable and more informal, I didn't have to rush from work and she did not normally have sessions on Saturday so I felt special, etc.

My T had another client show up in my time slot once. I felt sorry and embarrassed for her.

Not too out of the norm, especially if the T is not technologically inclined nor connected to the Cloud. I've had Pdocs fall asleep during med evals and show up 30 minutes late if that's any comfort...

I'd ask for some consolation; if it had been you who misread or remembered incorrectly and did not show up at the right time, would your T have charged you for the missed appointment? I would definitely discuss the situation with your T, tell her of your disappointment in missing a session due to her error.

I am so sorry this happened to you! I would be really upset by this.
![]() My ex-T was always crazy on-time and he also said once, when I asked about such things, that over the years he had only messed up one session time, and he was in his mid-40s then (but he also admitted to having some OCD). However, another T in his office came in through the front door/waiting room once when the patient was already there, and he was definitely late...the T was dropping papers and apologizing, etc, as he escorted the patient back. Another time, the same T came in messing around on his phone, whistling, and there was just me and another client in the waiting room. (I was early for once for my appt.) He looked at this guy, stopped, and basically was like, "Um, we didn't have anything today, did we?" The guy kinda smirked and said, "Yes, because we moved my regular appt., since I will be out of town next week, remember." Since the client seemed amused, I started smirking, too (I had seen this T do and say a couple of other things I didn't like at this point in going to my own appts., so I was amused by him being so completely caught off-guard.) The other T was going to say something, glanced at me, and then asked the other guy into his office so they could "figure something out." My T said this T messed stuff up like appts. all the time. ![]() So I guess I mean to say there is probably a wind range of T behavior/mistakes in this area...from my ex-T who made virtually none to this other T who seemed to be a mess and made them all the time. Anyway, I hope you don't have to wait another week to see your T, but I am guessing you do. ![]() |

I have seen three ts and two out of the three messed up regularly between forgetting appts and messing up times. Currrent t is never late nor missed an appt every week for a whole year, she has also said she checked out of hospital early so she wouldn't miss an appt. She is very particular with her punctuality and this works well for me.
I am sorry your t messed up, it hurts ![]() |

Well, that's the sort of mistake I can forgive.

Yeah, my T has done stuff like this a few times. It's disappointing at the time but it's a blip in the larger picture of my therapy. I hope you can make another appointment and see your T soon.

My former T once sent me a text asking where I was. I told her my appointment wasn't for a week and sent her a pic of her own appointment card.
My current T once made an 8am appt with me on a sat. She wasn't there. So, I called her. The office wrote her a note stating that an appt had been cancelled. They used my first name with the 9am client's last name. So, when she read it, she assumed I cancelled, but the 9am client cancelled. I left her a voicemail, which she checks. She called back and was already on her way. When she arrived, she took me to buy me a coffee, and then we had an extra long session, since the 9am client cancelled. Actually, it was one of my most memorable and best sessions. She more than made up for it. |
