Anybody have any interesting, or funny, or thought-provoking, or weird, examples of metaphors or similes your Ts use when they talk about therapy?

My T said, quite some time ago, that therapy is like a suspension bridge; you walk across it on your own most of the way, but at regular intervals there is a support, in the shape of your T. I like that image, but I still haven't learnt to walk the bridge very well.

Today he said that therapy is surgery without an anaesthetic. Which (to me) is pretty much true in every way, except the literal one.
Thanks for this!

I agree with the surgery analogy... it sure feels like that sometimes.
In one of my psychology classes, they said therapy is like a car with the client as driver and therapist as passenger. You don't get in someone's car and start rifling through the glove box... you let the client direct where the process is going to go and it's their journey. (not that the therapist is passive and just along for the ride... I guess that's where the analogy falls apart).

My T said the vision board & thought logs are similar to MDs doing blood tests, etc.

No but I was just thinking to myself the other day "therapists love metaphors." Thanks for confirming that Mastoden!

I still like when my T and I decided my way of doing therapy was like I was a car driving down the highway and when things got scary for me I'd exit on a clover leaf and then come back up to the highway a bit later/further on :-)

Therapy is being boiled alive in your own tears.

It is like taking a s....t

You need to feel comfortable. You get rid of toxic stuff and you feel relieved after. I can go into more detail but I think this is enough .
Thanks for this!

Double lol!! Ill remember this when we get to an appropriate comfort level(only been 3 session) On the other hand I'm very reserved around everyone but very few family members and friends. Also she seems very formal and proper. Maybe I should just take a huge chance and tell her I have a cool therapy joke, and see what her reaction is.

A fragment of dialog came to me just now. I don't know if it is relevant, but here goes:

Therapist: I'll change your nappy*, but only you can fill it.

* diaper.
