The past three sessions he has been late or hasnt called me in until past the initial time. The last two sessions has been such a waste of time, at least from my point of view. He makes me go into detail about things I dont care about. I get the feeling he just would rather me talk about nothing because its easier. He talked about my appearance (a button i was wearing, how I do put time into my appearance) which made me uncomfortable because I know thats generally a no-no. He's being more friendly and lax, which is not bad necessarily but just scaring me a little. I told him that not going to therapy for two weeks was really unpleasant, and he scheduled my next session three weeks from now. I told him I was not happy with the previous session during this last session.
Im not horribly angry with him as much as I am afraid of these warning signs. I know he is not perfect, but I feel like im being pushed to the side for other patients.
Should I leave him a message? He said it was okay. (If yes, what should I say?)

I had almost this exact same issue with a psychologist that I was seeing several years ago, eventually I got so fed up and just cut all ties with him all-together.

Do you think he misunderstood you and booked you further out instead of closer?

I'd bring it up either before next session or at next session. If you can't come to some sort of understanding about these basic things, I'd move on. If you can't manage to understand each other about basic things such as scheduling, it could be difficult with deeper topics.

I'd give him the chance to work things out though as misunderstandings do happen.
Thanks for this!

Honestly, it sounds like you have a miscommunication. It also sounds like you have different ideas on what you should be talking about that need to be cleared up. And maybe some assumptions on your part of what therapy is and isn't.
Thanks for this!

One time I tried to ask my T for an extra session and she thought I was considering quitting altogether. Weird miscommunications do happen...
