i posted that my T terminated me the other night by phone call. i had a flashback/dissociated in session and then I got terminated. i was going multiple times a week before this. T didnt even give me enough meds for enough time to find another doctor. it takes months to get a doctor where i live!! T just didnt care. i feel so sad and terrible about myself. i was thinking of trying to get my records to find out why and what T said about me.... do you think getting the records would make things worse... is it all the cold, clinical stuff about me? ive never seen records. i dont even know if the T would respond to me at this point. i dont undestand how this is ok. ......how a T could be so cold and basically uncaring. what about "do no harm?" i feel so terrible for being me. . |

You have the right to request your records. Most likely, what you receive will be very clinical. There are two types of notes: 1) The clinical notes that you get and 2) notes that the therapist take and destroy. Those notes may be helpful in reminding your T details of what you discussed. Most people are left feeling unsatisfied or disappointed after receiving their records. Rarely does it answer the "why" question.
I am sorry that you are going through this. |

She can't refuse to give it to you as hippa protects us and you have the right to know if you want to.
Is there a pdoc you can go to to refill your meds?

I'm sorry you're understandably hurting. This isn't your fault, and even though it's difficult right now for you to believe that, you really do need to keep saying it to yourself. You must counter the thoughts that are blaming you.
This T acted in the worst possible unprofessional way; and maybe acted in violation of your state's and governing association's ethical code. I think you would be better served by finding a new T, and then if you still want to, you can request the records and review them with the support of your new T. I don't know what medication you take, but most should not be stopped suddenly. Can you contact your primary care dr and explain the situation and get a refill to get you through until you can connect with a new provider? ![]() |

Wow! That is so unprofessional of your T. If they have a supervisor I would complain to them. So when the going gets tough it's time to terminate? Just wow!

I would recommend getting a new T, if only to assist you in getting your records. Where we are, it is not always easy to get a T to hand over records to the client. However, they MUST hand over the records to a new therapist (unless they required you to sign something in the beginning saying they don't have to).

If your T was prescribing your meds; sounds like she was a pdoc? I would get a non-doctor therapist, change to a meds-only pdoc.
It sounds like your termination was not good for you so I would not continue focusing on it as it does not appear to be something that can be "fixed" or helpful to you. Your therapist had a problem and no records about you are going to help you understand her problem. As well, any records written by her about you might be biased by her problems so not be "correct".
