Wondering what songs might be hitting your spot, or summing up your current feelings?

Currently Rihanna's song "what now" is summing up a lot for me; lyrics such as: ....I've been ignoring this big lump in my throat
I shouldn't be crying, tears were for the weak.....
....There's no one to call cause I'm just playing games with them all
The more I swear I'm happy, the more that I'm feeling alone
Cause I spent every hour just going through the motions
I can't even get the emotions to come out
Dry as a bone, but I just wanna shout....

Yup. I heard it while driving, had to hold complete composure as I had clients in the car but inside I felt like crying, smashing something and being sick all at once.

What are song of your songs?

Music seems to always infuse some emotional response in me, depending where I am in life.

Right now, since I'm pining for my therapist, I've been listening to "Spem in Alium" by Peter Phillips & the Tallis Scholars.

It stirs something deep inside of me.

2 songs in particular.

Pink- Just give me a reason, and Bruno Mars- When i was your man.

No reason for them, the lyrics arent all that meaningful to me, but i just love the songs.

Just Stand Up. It was intended for surviving cancer but it speaks to me about surviving therapy.

Right now I have "I Think It's Gonna Rain" by Bette Midler (from Beaches) playing in my head - parts of it sum up how lonely I feel right now.

"Wake Me Up"

Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start

They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don't open up my eyes
Well that's fine by me

[2x]
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost

I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
Hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don't have any plans

Wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life's a game made for everyone
And love is the prize

[2x]
So wake me up when it's all over
When I'm wiser and I'm older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn't know I was lost

Didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know I was lost
I didn't know (didn't know, didn't know)

Simple Truth by Eve Decker - played video for T also.

Simple Truth
Eve Decker

The way I see it there are two choices
I can wait for all these voices To tell me I have made it
Or I can love myself the way I am
The way I see it there are two choices
Try to do it their way Or find my own rejoicing music
And play

I’ve been given a responsibility
To love myself like I would love a child
Chaotic wild and turning
Building bridges, bridges burning
Just as I am, to love me

Maybe self hatred protects me
Until the day no one rejects me
If I reject myself first, your coldness might not hurt as much
Maybe if I work harder
Try more, do more, faster, longer
The day will come when I feel loved by everyone

I’ve been given a responsibility
To love myself like I love trees
Okay when branches crack and fall
No striving no have to’s at all
The sparkling green that breathes me
Just as I am loves me

No I do not have it all together
I never have and I never will
And I know that you don’t have it all together either
‘cause nothing here was made that way
We’re all falling, we’re all flying, we’re all playing, we’re all dying

We’ve been given a responsibility
To love ourselves like we love freedom
Using courage just to see
The simple truth of you and me
Love looks like humble gratitude Love looks like endless forgiveness
Just as we are just as we are just as we are

The way I see it there are two choices
We can wait for all these voices
To tell us we have made it
Or we can love ourselves the way we are.

These are great. I feel like music sums up my feelings without having to voice them myself. I'm sure T would be open to listening to it however I also know she would make me unpack it too.

Right now it is the second movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony. I don't pay attention to lyrics much, but I do get stuck on various pieces of music and play them over and over.

"Sweet Jane" Cowboy Junkies version

Anyone who's ever had a heart Wouldn't turn around and break it and anyone who's ever played a part Wouldn't turn around and hate it Sweet Jane, sweet Jane Sweet, sweet Jane

You're waiting for Jimmy down in the alley Waiting there for him to come back home Waiting down on the corner and thinking of ways to get back home Sweet Jane, sweet Jane Sweet, sweet Jane

Anyone who's ever had a dream Anyone who's ever played a part Anyone who's ever been lonely and anyone who's ever split apart Sweet Jane, sweet Jane Sweet, sweet Jane

Heavenly widened roses seem to whisper to me when you smile Heavenly widened roses seem to whisper to me when you smile

La la la la, la la la, etc...

I have been feeling 'Sail' by Awolnation. More musically, the emotions it stirs, rather than lyrically, as such... the song to me seems like it is depicting a stormy sea - life - and with the refrain 'SAIL', it's like the singer is trying to willing himself to keep going, but that it's a struggle.

"Worn" by Tenth Avenue North. It so is how I am feeling.

I’m Tired I’m worn
My heart is heavy
From the work it takes
To keep on breathing
I’ve made mistakes
I’ve let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed
By the weight of this world

And I know that you can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart
That’s frail and torn
I wanna know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause I’m worn

I know I need to lift my eyes up
But I'm too weak
Life just won’t let up
And I know that you can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart
That’s frail and torn
I wanna know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause I’m worn

My prayers are wearing thin
Yeah, I’m worn
Even before the day begins
Yeah, I’m worn
I’ve lost my will to fight
I’m worn
So, heaven come and flood my eyes

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That you can mend a heart
That’s frail and torn
I wanna know a song can rise
From the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause all that’s dead inside will be reborn

Though I’m worn
Yeah I’m worn

Same here. I've listened to Breakeven by the Script over 1400 times and only know a handful of the words. Its how the music feels that holds my attention more than what they are singing about.

Royals by Lorde. I just have to turn the radio up when that song comes on. My daughter told me "that song is so done!" I heard it for the first time last week. Shows how out of touch I've been, haven't listened to music in months.

For me, it's Rhianna's 'Diamonds'. It is making me cry so much at the moment. When it says "shine bright like a diamond" I think of my two young daughters shining so brightly. And all that I want for them in their lives. Then my thoughts turn to, my brother and I were never given the chance to shine like diamonds. Our childhood was ripped away from us

Dope by Lady Gaga

Cork's off, it's on
The party's just begun
I promise this
Drink is my last one
I know that I ****ed up again
'Cause I lost my only friend
God forgive my sins

Don't leave me, I
Oh I'll hate myself until I die

[Chorus:]
My heart would break without you
Might not awake without you
Been hurting low, from living high for so long
I'm sorry, and I love you
Sing with me, "Bell Bottom Blue"
I'll keep on searching for an answer cause I need you more than dope

[Post-Chorus:]
I need you more than dope
Need you more than dope
Need you more than dope
I need you more than dope

[Verse 2:]
Toast one last puff
And two last regrets
Three spirits and
Twelve lonely steps
Up heaven's stairway to gold
Mine myself like coal
A mountain of a soul
Each day, I cry
Oh, I feel so low from living high

[Chorus]
[Post-Chorus]

[Outro:]
I need you more
Need you more
I need you more than dope

Rise by Skillet. I really relate to this song because it's about changing things that are negative and bad and trying to make a change. The lyrics that I relate to the most are "In a world gone mad,
In a place so sad!
Sometimes it's crazy
To fight for what you believe!
But you can't give up,
If you wanna keep what you love!"

I know the song is about war...but I think it relates to every part of life, and I'm always trying to change things that are bad in my life, and it's true that you have to fight for what you believe

This is one of my favourite songs, and I know the words by heart since I listened to it day after day during some very difficult years of major depression. I am still going through hell with this ED and listen to this song frequently; always brings tears.

by: Amanda Marshall "Believe In You"

I especially thought befitting the words:

"Some of us can't move ahead, paralyzed with fear"
"Everybody's listening, cos we all need to hear"
"I believe in you"

Amanda Marshall is a Canadian singer.
