Anyone ever taken this? Was it hard? What did you score?

I took an IQ test a few years ago but I don't remember off the top of my head which one. I found it interesting and challenging, but I expected that. I won't say what I scored as I don't believe IQ is much of a predictor of much, although it can be important information in conjunction with other indicators/assessments. I will only say testing confirmed what was already suspected.

I took the WAIS last year as part of a mulitpronged assessment. It is not hard - you just keep on answering the questions until you start getting a bunch of them wrong. In most of the subtests I didn't get any wrong, which means I hit the ceiling of the test and can't get an accurate score.

I took this as a very depressed teenager-I think this is your standard IQ test--Wikipedia explains it well!
Kind of SAT-like----mostly verbal vs math ability see attached chart! There were block puzzles, all seemed like SAT questions all the way down to very simple questions. I scored 126 but the Dr. noted that I was thought to be higher, and that depression was interfering with my reaction time. |

If you want to read a great chapter on the IQ test and what it bodes for success, the book "Outliers" is amazing. It is great to know what is within your control and what is not when it comes to being "successful"

I wasn't told in detail how I did, it wasn't allowed. Now I hear they destroyed my record. Sigh. But I know the testing person said I was the far most intelligent person she tested.

I used to administer it - it is not something to pass or fail but just something to indicate where an individual lies on a continuum. As the above posts suggest, it is just one test out of numerous tests, that can tell us a little about ourselves, it does not define who we are. I wonder why you are taking it? (that is for me to wonder and not for you to answer by the way

Yes" testing complete and then had a session, it went well. T is doing great we may be a good fit. I can talk to him pretty easy and because he is a man I find it even easier to talk to him, so far. Thanks for asking, I'll have my results next week but he said he would email me the results and we can discuss in session. 2 sessions a week for now. Wish me luck!

I had one of these test done for a base line many years ago. They did another when I was severely depressed and the scores were way lower. It is an indication of how depression can dull your cognitive skills.

Yes, I took it; had a student as a therapist and he had to take a testing class, don't remember what I scored but I know that the idiot therapist didn't think I had any reason for being in therapy for the first couple years, thought I was "normal". He didn't tell me that until after he finally got it, that I wasn't in therapy for fun.

It has all sorts of stuff about it. I also took The MMPI and MMPI-2 but according to the web it's not something that's available online. |

I took the kid one and scored 142. I have no idea what I would score now. I've heard your IQ goes down as you get older. I was in the gifted program as a kid, though. And I skipped a grade, so I started university when I was 16.

I could perhaps have skipped a year, but I would have missed out on the last year of high school. I'm very glad I didn't.

It was also harder because I went to university away from home and stayed in a dormitory. Needless to say, I 'matured' beyond my years. I started drinking when I was 12 and smoking pot when I was 13. I was doing cocaine by 18.

My own awakening came when I read SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE. My own family put so much emphasis on intellectual intelligence and school achievement that I never considered the importance of something other than what I could or couldn't achieve academically. It was a big eye opener for me to discover that people who posessed social abilities AND intellectual intelligence could out smart me

![]() I totally agree with this, and have had a similar experiences with others surpassing me throughout my life. My daughter is highly gifted too and I see this also playing out with her - while she scores very, very highly on IQ tests and is years beyond her age academically, she struggles socially. Her younger brother is bright (not gifted), but is more adept socially and has a much greater internal drive to succeed. I can easily imagine him being much more successful than her in adulthood. Intellectual intelligence is certainly great to possess, but it is only a part of the overall picture that contributes towards 'success'. |

Intellectual intelligence is certainly great to possess, but it is only a part of the overall picture that contributes towards 'success'.[/quote] Luce, you might want to read Daniel Goleman's book, Social Intelligence. I believe it to be a critical book for all individuals to read who are raising children in this very competitive world. I wish I had access to it earlier in my life because I KNOW that I would have raised my own son differently. It is a very powerful book. I say this because I believe that as a society we pretend to say that intelligence isn't important or critical, we downplay in ourselves, but in reality, we all honor and worship it. We see it as the signal of wonder and achievement. . .. we fail to see the isolation and believed or precieved failure in the IQ score. Said from a person who has admistered and interpreted psycho-educational assessments for thirty years! |
