please be careful. A couple days ago Dr. Phil had an episode about E therapy and Telephone therapy and a majority was about how there are people out there pretending to be therapy professionals and they get people to trust them and help them only just so far and then tell them they will continue to help them for a sum of money. he even showed how there were 4 people out there impersonating him telling people that if they send them $450.00 they will be able to talk directly to Dr. Phil's wife and for $750.00 they can talk to Dr Phil and for $1200.00 they can have a therapy session with both DR. Phil and his wife Robin. The people even forged letterhead when one lady asked for proof that she was talking to Dr. Phils secratary. Dr. Phils wife got on there and they got her and one scammer talking where the scammer did not realize the lady calling was Dr. Phils wife and she set her up for an appointment with Dr. Phils wife. Dr. Phils wife actually got an appointment to talk to Dr. Phils whife.

So please be careful there is no guarentee that the E therapists and phone therapists you find on line are who they claim to be.

I've done e-therapy twice but you should go through a reputable site. Reputable therapists aren't going to be free! Go to Metanoia: http://www.metanoia.org/ and learn all about e-therapy and find one from them that's been checked-out.

Do you have a therapist or even a past therapist? if so how about asking them if they know of any reputable E therapists that you could try? that way you may have a better chance at not being taken advantage of physically, mentally and money wise.

Just check out credentials, just like you should with anyone. I do know of at least one agency that provides e-counseling on a donation basis and will work with people at no cost if needed. It is a Christian counseling service, supported by donations from churches, and not subject to licensing requirements due to where they are located. They might be helpful - and I do understand that the therapists have degrees and belong to professional associations. They just don't have to have licenses where they are based.

There are others that use a sliding scale so that you pay what you afford. It's really unfortunate that scammers have picked up on this market, but they are everywhere so we always have to be careful. I'd like to hear how it works out when the therapist writes you back.
