If you been keeping up with my posts, you know todays session, starts the beginning of the end. I would like to record todays session, I have never recorded any of my sessions with her, but I feel I need to.

I can do it easily with my iphone, here is the thing, I dont want to tell her, because she might say no, or it might change the tone to the whole session, or it might make me paranoid, she will think I been recording every session which I havent.

I dont know, this is me or my nerves right now, I read on pc many people have done it. would you

Oh yeah, as you might have read, I recorded my last session without my T's knowledge and I feel pretty bad because of that so I wouldn't recommend that... I'll have the chance to tell my T about it next time but if it's your last session... If you really want to record, you can ask at the beginning but there is always a chance that she refuses... Would you like to be recorded without your knowledge? I guess no one would want it.. If you are only afraid that the whole session will be weird because you ask her at the beginning, maybe you could record and at the end of the session tell your T that you did it, for the first time, why you did it and why you did not tell her at the beginning and ask her if you could keep that record or if you should delete it... But if your T insists to delete I would do that... That's just my idea but I'm not sure if it's helpful anyhow...

You can always ask. Or would the thought of her saying no be devastating for you. If you can go into it with the mind-frame of asking and being willing to accept whatever her answer is, then go for it. Personally I wouldn't record without asking first, but you probably are under no obligation to do so.
Thanks for this!

If I were you I'd bring it up and request to record. I don't get why recording your therapy session would be an issue. Unless maybe Dr thinks you'll post it or something. But bring it up, you have to ask for what you want. You may not get it or you may...but saying nothing won't do you any good. Good luck, hope it goes well!

I would ask permission. I personally wouldn't be able to record someone else without their permission as it would feel to me like an invasion of their privacy.

If she says no or that she's not comfortable with it, you could always bring up that you would like to record it so that if you forget what you talk about with the potential new therapist (this is a meeting with one of the two she's found for you, right?) you'll be able to refer back to the session. But you would need their permission too.

I wouldn't do it. I would feel guilty everytime I listened to the recording or even thought about it. Like another poster said there's nothing wrong with asking. Before you go you might want to think about what feelings will come up if you get a no, and if possible prepare yourself to continue with what ever else you came for that session. In other words don't let a no blind you. Best wishes to you. I'm sorry you are going through these changes at such a crucial time.
Thanks for this!

I have thought about it, and right now, my priorities are getting these feelings out and processing this mess, I was thinking impulsivly about this recording, I will not ask or record without permission. the way I am feeling right now, a no answer from her would make me spiral. So I will deal with one thing at a time

I think that is a good decision. No need to add to your stress level at this moment.

What was your reasoning in wanting to record the session?
