So I have questions
How do I tell my GP? Do I need an appointment? My parents would be asking me why I need to see GP.I don't want to tell them It is because I am depressed, having suicidal thoughts, & that I am not motivated to anything. My mom is wondering why I am getting bad grades, & why I am not doing my work. I don't want to tell it is because its due to depression. I have had urges to SH,have contemplated suicide, & have had a plan. If I tell my GP this, what will she do? |

I never know how to help someone who is still in the power of unsympathetic parents.
If you try to deceive them you will eventually get caught. But if you act openly you will get slapped down straight away. ![]() I'm hearing you are still at school. Perhaps someone there could help?

It depends what the laws are on age of consent. Even if your doctor CAN'T tell your parents, he'll probably pressure you do it anyways.

If you don't feel like you can go straight to your GP, maybe talk to a school counselor and explain to him/her that your parents will invalidate you if you try to talk to them.

Tell your parents that your throat hurts or something. Then when you are I. There you can tell the dr what you really are there for

Do you have a school adjustment counselor? Most schools have them. If you're not sure your guidance counselor will know. They may be able to help direct you to some more information. I

What is your concern about telling your parents? How do you think they'll react? Are you worried about disappointing them? Have they been unsympathetic, uncaring or abusive?
I ask because if you're in high school and you live with your parents and you're dealing with a significant degree of depression, it is going to be very hard to go get the kind of help you need without their assistance, much less without their knowledge. Do you need to tell your parents before going to see your GP? If you absolutely don't want to, you can probably find clinics geared at adolescent health where you can go without your parents' insurance. Call around. You can always ask before disclosing anything (to a counsellor or a doctor) what are the limits to confidentiality for that person. You can ask your counsellor something general like "what resources are available to help a student who is dealing with depression?" You don't have to tell them much unless and until you feel ready. Good luck. I hope you find the support you need. |

I really feel for you, Maybe you could write it down for your guidance counselor if you find it hard telling her? It is not easy telling parents, My parents never knew about me as they simply didn't care. Good luck and take care.

You need to tell some-one. Writing it down is an easier way to crack the ice. As for what a doc or counselor will do.... you wont know unless you tell them. As for privacy laws I dont think your doc can tell your parents if you are over a certain age.
Please get help. Its a very dark place to be when you are all alone. A school counselor may have some good suggestions for you. Take Care |
