So My T & I terminated our two year relationship 4 weeks ago. So that must mean that I'm 'cured' right!?

Uh No! In my case i feel, well not satisfied with the ending, like I'm still not a functioning whole person. I'm better after therapy but not there yet. I wish I could still see my T but alas I cannot.

So it got me wondering what other people's experiences were post termination. Is it the life you'd hoped for or not quite ?

Why did you terminate? Because the answer to that question greatly affects the answer to your question.

hi. doesnt mean ur cured. means ur ready to figure things out on your own. hat ur ready to deal with ur probs alone. i think if someone is attached to their T they should space the appoints before ending it abruptly. tc

My therapy ended as it was provided by the NHS so its time limited so I didn't have a choice.

So sorry. That's so lame. Can you get another therapist to help you continue?

I had to terminate a 5+ year psychoanalysis because I would not stop drinking.

I'm getting by OK. The transference longings are now tolerable.

You haven't terminated--your therapy was stopped. So emotionally/psychologically you're still in the process, but without the sessions. That's a very different place to be than "finished."

If you can't continue with someone, you could try free support groups, or journaling, especially on a fixed schedule, as though it were a therapy session. Write out sessions, taking the role of your T as well as yourself. Although I was ready to finish therapy, it ended abruptly and in an unexpected way, so I found the journaling helped a lot. Even though now many years later I have contact with my former T, our relationship is not about therapy, so I continue to journal intensively a couple of times a year. It keeps me in touch with myself.
Thanks for this!

Thank you to everyone.

Feral & Hazel, i received a letter from my T today saying he will see me for a session in March! (I wrote to him explaining that I was finding the abrupt ending really difficult) so I'm really happy about that
