Neutrino - how can you be studying anatomy and not know about anatomy?? hopefully if you are healthy enough, your anti-cootie-bodies will fight off whats making you ill. I like lemon ginger honey tea, but only when im sick. And a heating pad or hot water bottle to the chest.

Well, a fever's not something you'd read about when studying anatomy. I suspect I'll get to read more about it when taking immunology in March. Anyway, I know how a fever works. Just wondering if I've got one.

Anyway, thank you. I wish I liked tea. I don't really like hot beverages in general.

The test for fever is to place a thermometer in an orifice and check the temperature.

It started on Thursday afternoon when I all of a sudden started coughing. Yesterday I had a headache all day, couldn't really focus on anything and it felt like I was coughing my lungs out. Went to bed at 10pm and I've been half asleep since then, dreaming a lot and freezing like crazy. Not freezing a lot in this precise moment but I do have a headache etc. I don't have a thermometer at home so I can't take my temperature.
Sounds as if it could be influenza - the season is upon us

I hope you got some more sleep and are feeling better today. Drink a lot - doesn't have to be hot, but fluids are good. Study if you can, but if you are ill , you're ill, and you can't do anything other than try to get better, which means rest. It sucks to be sick when you have lots to do, but it doesn't make you a bad student or a bad person.

Neutrino, I too have a similar thing. I have a bad bad sore throat too. So I slice up a lemon, pour a mug of boiling water, place the lemon inside, squeeze some honey in, then grate some fresh ginger. Tastes OK and soothes the throat

Yeah, I just called my mother (who's a nurse) and she, too, told me it might be influenza. I guess it's either that or some sort of stress induced ailment. Either way it sucks. I really don't have time to be ill. I have one seminar on Monday, one seminar on Tuesday and a test on Thursday which I need to study for. Might have to force myself to do so. Will be interesting to see how that'll go since I'm pretty much too tired to even go to the kitchen and get some food. Ha, I almost feel like small child today.

How are you doing today? No flu?

I know the feeling when you don't have time to be ill.

I'm okay, thanks - no flu, so far. Touch wood. And this week, the birds have started singing again, which makes life a little easier.

I'm looking forward to the spring, though I'm sort of dreading the summer. I like the winter. I like the darkness and being able to see the stars. I always miss them during the summer.

Neutrino....sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Do they have anti-viral flu medications there? In US they prescribe Tamiflu....it doesnt cure it but it helps it run its course faster and you dont feel as bad.... Its rough being sick at university when you dont have anyone to bring you food or medicines.... Do they have an infirmiry there?

Hope you start to feel better soon.
Thanks for this!

I havent checked the weather yet.... But my older son and I are heading to northern shore of Boston tomorrow. I am not even sure how long the drive is ...guessing 5 or 6 hours... It will take me longer because I refuse to go through Nyc....I'll take the Tappenzee.

We need there to be no snow for the east coast from Sunday Morning through Tuesday.

Thanks, RTS. I'm not sure about those anti-viral flu medications you mentioned. I'm not sure we've got them I mean (we probably do only I don't know about it). I never really go see the doctor for things like this. I usually just wait it out. Haven't had a fever in a long time though (until now that is).

I feel like I should eat something. Not sure what. I don't want to leave my room.

Yeah, they do prescribe Tamiflu here, but many doctors are rather restrictive with it. It is only effective against some strains of influenza, you have to start taking it within 48 hours of starting to feel the first symptoms, and in general it's not recommended unless you belong to a risk group. There are too many issues associated with it, such as what happens when the residue gets out into the eco system. (Some people flush unused medication down the toilet, as hard as that is to believe. But that's a different discussion.)

Feel better, neutrino. Can you ask your boyfriend, or maybe one of the other people in your corridor, to go shopping for you? (I would never have asked any of my corridor mates to do that when I was ill, so I understand if you don't....)

Thanks. I'll be ok. I don't want to bother anyone. There's a store quite close to where I live. I might be able to go there. I just don't know what I want or if I want anything.

Hey all...
They are telling us 12-14 inches today/night. Sigh. My oldest D is supposed to be here in the morning. If this storm keeps them....grrrrrrr. We got all freezing rain with the last storm, so most of few feet of snow on the ground has been washed away...however, my gravel driveway still has several inches of frozen snow. Yea, I'm sick of it.

I am off to town before the snow starts to get small gifts for the grands...

laters.

My niece is stuck at an airport. She was coming home for her b-day, which is today (she's 20) but her flight last night was cancelled (due to weather conditions, I believe) and she's been waiting since early this morning to get on another flight. She is at one of the largest airports in Europe, but there is only so much shopping and people watching you can do...
