Is anyone on here in therapy for addiction? Or with addiction being at least one of the things you are working on? I'm referring to drug addictions in particular- legal or illegal...prescription drugs, street drugs...anything. Maybe even alcohol?

If so, please share your experiences with me if you don't mind? I would greatly appreciate it. Details such as what type of addiction, how long you have been in therapy for this, what type of therapist you have, the style of therapy you are involved in, how it is helping or has helped, etc. It would be incredibly helpful!

Thank you!

**The reason I ask is I am personally facing an addiction and I am not at all sure how to approach the first step to recovery...or I guess the second step, since the first step is realizing the addiction? You get the picture...

No, I have no experience with addiction treatment. I have tried many things but it's never been an addiction for me, except with a bout of MJ that lasted for a year+ but I have since kicked it.

Does your T know about your addiction? Are you looking to get treatment with him or someone else?

I personally don't have any direct expeirience but will say a 12 step program is a great way to start. My parents have been in AA for over 35 years. My brother is in AA/NA. for over 20 years. It's free and available everywhere. If you have other treatment or therapy it is a great supplement.
Thanks for this!

Yes she knows about my addiction and I would like her help but she seems to shake it off and not really address it each time it comes up. Best suggestion she had was to confess to my pDoc because he is an expert in chemical dependency and can give me something to help rid me of my addiction. This may be helpful for discontinuing the drug and initially kicking the addiction, but it does nothing for the cause of the addiction like why I started it, continued it, and keep going back to it once I've been clean for a good amount of time. I guess like coping strategies, plan/goal-setting, and just extra support in general.

I am open to all options. I will address it with my pDoc when I see him next but that won't be for another 7 weeks.
