So he wants you to be in counseling as well?

I don't think that request is unreasonable. However, to demand that you see a counselor at HIS practice is. I think he should be ok with you seeing someone elsewhere...as long as you are seeing SOMEONE.

I think the idea behind it is that the meds aren't supposed to fix everything - it's in conjunction with therapy. So asking you to sign a release for the therapist and pdoc to communicate at least so he knows you are compliant with therapy isn't unreasonable.

As of how you should act with him? I think honesty is best. If you don't understand the purpose...ask him. And if it's because he feels you would benefit from therapy (as the pdoc is supposed to just be meds and is rarely therapy) it makes sense. And if there's someone else you want to see for therapy - tell him. Say something along the lines of "I understand you want me to see a therapist for counseling, and you asked me to see someone here, but I already know and feel comfortable with xx. If I signed a release so you can verify that I am attending and compliant with therapy, would that be sufficient?"

Let us know how it goes...*hugs*

Sometimes a Pdoc has to tell us things we don't want to hear.

It's your choice, but if you've trusted him for ten years, maybe it's worth an effort to trust him now?

Good luck!
