I saw my T yesterday and he had introduced me to an employment consultant who specialises in helping people with mental health challenges find work. Now in my case I wouldn't normally be a fit for this service as I am already working but am stopping work to start University in 2 weeks and my employer suddenly informed me that actually I will not have on going part time work..............which leaves me unable to afford to live. Anyway......

We were discussing options, going through option A B & C etc and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed after a particularly tough session with T, so I needed to inject some humour to the situation.

I explained that I had talked it over with a friend and this friend had suggested that I start a phonesex line, which I said I would do but preferred to keep it as option X maybe. Y & Z would have to be well.......

The consultant laughed her head off with me and my T laughed but as I looked around he was covering his eyes and was blushing!! Oh my....it was a joke for goodness sake!

Now what concerns me is this....I will need to talk about a few subjects, and trauma, related to sex and worry now that he will blush or something again. Gah! It may seem cute, but it also concerns me,I don't need a T who I worry about being embarrassed about a discussion, know what I mean? How on earth do I bring this up...or do I not? Maybe I just surprised him in that context?

Does anyone have experience with this sort of reaction from a T?

Jane, my T has also blushed, and is pretty shy actually. I know I have made him uncomfortable a couple of times. I brought it up and we walked about it. He acknowledged that he's shy and certain topics are a bit harder for him, but he assured me that the topics are important and he can handle his own discomfort. He also apologized that his discomfort was apparent. Also, as time has gone on, I have noticed that his discomfort has lessened and we can discuss those topics pretty freely now.

Ts are human and have their own issues. If they are competent at what they do, they know how to put it aside (mostly anyway), and deal with the discussions anyway. If you are concerned, maybe you could discuss it with him. Having that discussion was helpful for me anyway.

I think I've seen Madame T blush, but I don't remember when. Probably when she was caught in a double booking.

Oh stop! lol

On reflection, he does seem to blush(or get a flush of colour to the face) from time to time....not related to embarrassment necessarily. Can't quite put my finger on why though yet!

My guess is that he is a closet sex-line worker, and hence, the embarrassment!

I have made my prior Therapist blush before, in particular when I was reading her my farewell letter at last session.

I haven't seen T blush but I haven't gotten up the nerve to talk about sex. You would think after 6 years I would but not yet...

I wasn't even talking about sex, as in my sex life for goodness sake, just making a joke! Its only been 1 year after all!
