Does anyone else get dependent on their therapist? When mine had suggested terminating treatment, I completely freaked out. I just didn't think I could be without him there to talk to or without his opinions on what to do. Then when my doctor suggested changing t's, I freaked out again. Every therapist I've seen, I've become dependent on them in a sense. Anyone else? Is this normal?

Totally normal. In fact, it was explained to me that in order for the deep work to happen, you need to have a healthy attachment to your T. For me, the attachment began with an uncomfortable feeling of dependency, and shifted into a secure attachment from there.
However, even with a secure attachment, I still have freak outs and days or weeks where I feel like I can't live without my T and desperately need to talk to T as much as possible (I don't act on that) and I'm always happy when those phases pass!

It's completely normal and it happens often.
You do get past the dependent part to just depending and then not needing them in the same way anymore. Baby steps ![]() |

Totally Normal. I have been dependent on my therapist going on two years. I really fear the thought of termination. I am so independent in most aspects of my life, this is just so perplexing. It drives me crazy sometimes!
