Welcome to the Couch thread! This is a general chat thread about therapy, life, and everything else. Nothing is too big, or too small, to bring up here. We laugh together, look at pictures of each other's pets, and support each other when life is tough.

Be prepared that the thread can move quickly and sometimes posts are overlooked, and you might not get a response even if your post is quite important. It's not personal, it's just that people don't always read back before posting. Post again, if it happens to you.

As always: Don't contact your T while intoxicated.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for the invite. I think I'll just sit a spell, I could use a rest on a comfy couch. My kiddo's been home sick most of the week, better today thank goodness in time for the V-day party, and I am itching to catch a nap on my real couch, but... no rest for the wicked.

Hello. Just wanted to say that I got some new books today, which I'm very excited about! Can't wait to start reading them, though I have to finish the one I'm currently reading before that (and it's quite slow so far).

So, people on Couch 72, how are you doing today?
Thanks for this!

I had 2 1/2 black bean brownies for breakfast. I ran out of milk to wash them down with. Also i think they are somewhat self limiting, which is good. Heck its great! Also they werent bitter this morning. The recipe did say to let them sit in the fridge overnight. Next time im gonna add tofu and maybe some dried egg whites, and maybe some chickpea flour? I would like them to be a little more substanstial. Ie higher than 1/2 inch high! This is fun.
Thanks for this!

You know what I'm itching to try? Marijuana brownies. Recreational marijuana use is now officially legal in my state, and I've never tried any type of drug before. I'm thinking.... nothing with chocolate in it could be too terrible. They're hard to buy right now because of all the legalities around selling the stuff, but apparently in a couple months it's going to get easier.

Also, black bean ones sound so nutritious! I bet the chickpea flour will work great. More legumes. Going to be good for the digestion too I suppose.

Hey Leah...I want to try mj brownies too. Still not legal in my state, though.

I feel so relieved. I got T's site up on the web! It's not quite finished yet, but it's there. T can be somewhat excitable in person, but her texts are normally bland. This one was full of OMG!, WOW!, and thank you!!...and she hasn't even seen it yet...lol. Now I'm even more motivated to finish it.

Plus due to the ice storm, I have an extra week to finish school assignments.

Hey Hankster, can you post the recipe? I'm intrigued!
I've been making chickpea chocolate chip cookies a lot lately and my kids gobble them up. But then the other day my son was like "can we make the regular kind? With flour and butter and eggs and stuff?" So we did.

Chick pea cookies (adapted from a recipe on The Hairpin)

1.5 c cooked chickpeas (canned is all I ever use)
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 c water

1/2 cup peanut butter (sunflower seed butter works well too, then you can send them to school)
3 tbsp honey (I actually like it better with 1/3 c brown sugar)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp baking powder

2 cups rolled oats
1 c chocolate chips
Optional raisins

Mix the first three in a food professor or blender until smooth (much trickier in a blender but I don't have a food processor!) Add the remaining ingredients and pulse a couple of times (or if using a blender: transfer to mixing bowl and mix in the second group of ingredients by hand).

Add the oats and chocolate chips and mix by hand until more or less incorporated. Drop cookie-sized spoonfuls on a baking sheet.

Bake at 375F (190C) for twelve minutes.

You can omit the water and the oats if it has to be strictly gluten free or you just don't have/like oats.

If you need metric units: a cup is 250ml, a tbsp is 15ml, a tsp is 5ml (more or less). It's a very forgiving recipe!
Thanks for this!

Hey all

Nice new sofa, Mast, thanks!!!

So, I spent time with mother...erg...she drove me nuts. I have been telling her for a few weeks that I would be busy with my oldest D and her fam from the 16-18, so of course now she has a bunch of stuff that needs to be done on those days. Of course. Of course. I made her do it all today. I stopped at this fancy grocers and bought some dried Italian sausage, cheeses and crackers to make a valentines basket for H. I got home, excited to put it together, and happy that I got everything done, until I picked up today's paper and the front page read:
Toddler found dead at [Cape Cod town] home
Made me want to puke, because this particular family situation has been in the Times several times in the past few months. Most of us knew something bad was going to happen to one of these kids. There's a 3 yr old little girl and her 23 month old brother. The brother was found dead.

I am so upset, I just want to scream. We're supposed to leave it up to the "officials" but the ones here are corrupt. The social workers aren't licensed. Foster families have criminal records. Kids are dying.

Hi All

I am poorly, with a cold and aching all over...my T has cancelled Mondays session because she had an operation yesterday (a minor one) and isn't feeling well enough...*sigh*. I understand that, REALLY I do, it just sucks a bit.

Anyone fancy putting the kettle on for a cup of tea?

Oh OK, I remember that I did that for a little while after I broke off with my last Therapist (and only checked in from time-to-time), but have really been back in full swing once it looked like I would be returning to Therapy (and am now back in Therapy).

yes he did it was just stupid .and Im a bit overly emotional. I couldn't hear something he asked me and I asked him to repeat it 3 times but he wouldn't speak up and got angry when I said I cant hear you .he said then get up and come in here so you can hear. then when he got there he said never mind and did what he asked himself . he was grumpy from snow plowing for 2 hours. and I was being way over sensitive

Hey mkac

Jersey, I bought two half-bottles of wine today. Had the first one with dinner today and saving the second one for dinner tomorrow. I find it's a good idea to have half bottles around... I don't really want to drink more than that, but it's too easy to do if the bottle is there and open.

neutrino, come on, you can't go mentioning books without giving us their titles!

And I am currently watching Gonzo the Great growing a tomato plant whilst playing the 1812 overture on a violin.

I have been seeing a Psychiatrist for a few years, now. She finally recommended me to a Therapist, so I had my first appointment today which went well. She listened to everything I had to say. I have another appointment in two weeks, looking forward to it.

It's 2am over here and I just woke up. Need some advice from you grownups out there (I guess I'm technically an adult myself but I don't really feel like one). Do you reckon I have a fever if I've been sleeping in a thick jumper/sweater and a thick duvet (or whatever it's called in English) and still been freezing like crazy while feeling lousy? It started on Thursday afternoon when I all of a sudden started coughing. Yesterday I had a headache all day, couldn't really focus on anything and it felt like I was coughing my lungs out. Went to bed at 10pm and I've been half asleep since then, dreaming a lot and freezing like crazy. Not freezing a lot in this precise moment but I do have a headache etc. I don't have a thermometer at home so I can't take my temperature.

This makes me feel incredibly stressed out. I have a lot of things I need to study tomorrow (today) and I don't know when to do so if I don't do it tomorrow (today).

Well, my parents bought me a beautiful anatomical atlas that I've been wanting for a while. It's called Sobotta Atlas of Anatomy and consists of the following three books:

- Head, Neck and Neuroanatomy
- Internal Organs
- General Anatomy and Musculoskeletal System

Then I got four other books (my boyfriend bought me one and the others I bought myself):

- Descartes' Error: Emotion, Reason and the Human Brain by Antonio Damasio
- Kafka On the Shore by Haruki Murakami
- Stiff: the Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach (popular science book, I'm not that creepy)
- Erwin Schrödiger and the Quantum Revolution by John Gibbins
Thanks for this!
