I disagree with that in several ways, RT, and especially with the claim that it is "good" in some general sense. You find it useful, I don't doubt that, but I see no reason to discuss T in my therapy hour. And if I did find a therapeutic use for that discussion, I would certainly not want it to stem from things T had not chosen to tell me. But I know that our positions are very far apart on this issue, which is fine - I just take issue with the statement that it is "good" to search for details about T's personal life, because it can be a good or a bad thing.
Thanks for this!

I agree and it really all depends on the Therapist you are seeing, my current Therapist is very open as to questions about her personal life.

But your T's openness to answering questions is not at all the same as gathering info behind her back. I suspect her openness is to stem your need to dig for info otherwise.

I had googled my T before I met her - this is how I look for Ts. So how do you normally find a T - from a recommendation? I am not sure if a t who is great for someone else would necessarily be great for me as well... And here, people do not talk about it so I even do not know if I know anyone who is in a therapy...
Thus, I've googled my T, checked her official webpages, read her papers, read about her methods, checked her picture etc... If she had any personal info online, probably I would also check them but she didn't have any... Since I started seeing her, I've googled her few times to read more about her methods or when she said that she'd be teaching in Asia, I checked what her talk was about...
I do not feel guilty for googling my T as I've also googled my bosses etc. and I also know that anyone can google me so I'm aware that whatever I put online, can be read by everyone - I'm fine with it and I would be surprised if any T wouldn't be okay with it...
