Anyone else scared of getting more independent because then you won't have such a good reason to go to therapy?
No close friends, unemployed, and terrified of being more lonely once I stop sessions. |

There have been times where I though that I was getting better yet I stayed in Therapy.

I'm doing much better, there are some times where I have nothing to report to my therapist but I go anyway. I think I am comfortable there for a while more, I don't want to leave.

Our therapy group has this computer tracking program on how you feel things are going in your life.
Lol....it showed i was doing better..we talked about that & my appointments were every 2 + weeks apart anyway. I commented that as soon as things start to be ok...something ALWAYS whacks into my life & causes huge issues...& sure enough...not a few weeks later & WHAM....& I'm still struggling with it. Even though i have a good support network that i never had before in my life until i left my H 6+ years ago & moved 2100 miles away to where i didn't know anyone & started to meet very wonderful (I'm sure this is God's work in my life). I find it so valuable to have this wonderful professional psychologist to open up to & the wonderful DBT next step group (after 2+ years of DBT with the awesome group leader we have for that)....It just helps complete the support that is very necessary in my life after 33 years of being in a bad marriage & the trauma i went through at the end of my mothers life. Having no family other than my daughter who lives 1000+ miles away....i need all the support i can get even though i have always been a very independent person Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I577 using Tapatalk 2

Your T shouldn't leave until you're ready, and that means having friends and other strong relationships to fall back on. It's to your benefit if you work on getting better.

I certainly felt that way after I learned to trust her. They often say, you, the client, knows when to say good-bye. They were only words in the beginning. But, I did know, and I was healed enough in 18 months to start a new path in my life. My therapist did make sure I was living a RL when I was seeing her.

It always makes me sad to leave but I strongly believe we need to fly the therapist's nest and not to go to therapy just for the sake of therapy. We can get too wrapped up in ourselves and even our therapist if we do that, but obviously it's an individual thing.

Presumably you will make some friends and maybe find a job as you become "better". Toward the end of my therapy sometimes having to go to sessions seemed an imposition; I wanted to do other things or continue doing something. I had a dream where I was given an exciting new project at work right before I had to leave for therapy and the tension between wanting to get into the new project but not wanting to be late for therapy (work was on the top floor of the building (head/thinking) and therapy in the basement (emotional). Halfway in between my rush down the spiral staircase I was stopped on a middle floor by a problem only I saw/wanted/had to stop and fix but which would make me late, LOL. You have to work through a lot of stuff like that, therapy is not just putting in time. You can be ready when you terminate.
