Mine lasts 60 min so i am already happy that not 50 But I wish I could have 90... My T has already asked if I feel that I do not have enough time because usually when I see that there is just 10 minutes left I shut down as there is no sense in starting any new topic... I could not have responded directly as I know that she works with me "after hours"- she has never said that but I am her last client and she was always saying that till July she cannot give me a regular schedule but when she realized that I have problems with seeing her once per 2-3 weeks suddenly she gave me a weekly sessions in the evening Thus, I only said that even if I had 2 x 90 min sessions per week I still could want more and more so it doesn't matter how much time I have, I always could want more... I am not sure if it is true but it least she doesn't have to try "meeting my needs"...

I agree. The most successful sessions I have had are the ones that lasted close to 2 hours. She literally allowed time to slip away and not exist for a bit and it was such a good feeling.

Mine only lasts 45 minutes.. Just came back from one such session and I can't stand it that I have to wait another week for just 45 minutes. I wish I could have 60 minutes, I think I'd be really happy with an hour..

This has definitely changed over time for me. I used to wish my appointments could be 2 or 3 hours, and even that wouldn't have felt long enough, therapy time seems to go by SO fast!! But just lately - we've been doing 25 minute appointments instead of 50 minutes for financial reasons, and that's been fine. Today I had a last-minute kind of session I just scheduled yesterday, because I'd had a terrifying nightmare I wanted to discuss with her, and when we got to 25 minutes she asked if I wanted a full 50 minutes because she was prepared to do that, I only had to think for a couple seconds before replying honestly, "I think I want to stop here, and observe myself for awhile." She said she liked my choice of words there, to observe myself, but that's exactly what I wanted to do.... what a great session today.... sometimes they just come out of the blue don't they, the really great sessions?? I'm getting off track here. Sorry. My point was, I was more than happy with 25 minutes and turned down a longer session without a second thought. A couple months ago even I'd not have thought that possible.

edit: wow! i replied to this in early April with a much different answer. Amazing how things can change!!

I wish T could talk to me for at least 2 hours a session. It takes time to actually talk about my week and how I'm feeling.

I wish I could get an hour. (I wish I'd get the full 45 minutes, but I am not taking that discussion again.) 60 minutes would feel like plenty of time, I think; three quarters of an hour is just enough to get going, and I usually leave feeling that I did not finish what I wanted to say.

Mastodon, I'm exactly the same! Oftentimes, reading your posts, I've thought that our Ts are just too similar! It's scary!

45min twice a week you'd think is enough but an hr & half would be nice just so she'd have more time for grounding. Sometimes I don't know how I drove home!

Ive been so trained to the 45 minutes, ive noticed that the last few times ive met new friends for coffee, i am DONE at 45 minutes like a switch turned off. Its embarrassing! I have to get up and move! I wonder if thats why i perceive t as fidgety IRL.

I've always experienced therapy a therapy hour as 50 minutes. With a pdoc, where I am a 20 minute appointment is technically 15 minutes. I'm pretty sure both are dictate by insurance billing policies.

The hour is 50 minutes of actual therapy, then the next ten minutes for the therapist to make notes.

When I changed insurance companies, my sessions went from 50 minutes to 60 minutes. They definitely feel longer to me.

50 minutes, once a week is usually just fine for me. Sometimes it goes by so fast and I feel like I missed it but other times it's kinda slooooow and a bit torturous so....idk. It would be nice if we met more often when things get intense - like an extra session. But I've never asked. I don't know if I could handle more than once per week every week though....I think most of the work gets done outside of therapy for me. It's just nice to know in between that I have my T to go back to the next week.

I think I would like a solid 75 minutes.

I currently only get about 45-50 minutes due to scheduling conflicts, but my T generally does 60 minute sessions.

I'm hoping that by the end of June she'll have an opening later in the day so I don't have to leave work early and can get the full time (I can't leave work until about 2:30 which means not getting to T until about 2:45 because it's a ~15 minute walk from work). She has lots of clients who are college students, so it is a definite possibility.

I wish it lasted for 2 hours. The longest session I've had has been an hour and a half-not long enough!

Some sessions I want to leave after about 30 minutes because the topic is so uncomfortable. Other times 60 minutes doesn't seem like enough.

I think 90 minutes would be great, I've had close to 90 minute sessions before due to my therapist keeping me longer, and those extra 15-30 minutes were so helpful.
