I text or email my T whenever I have something to share without any fear that she will ever be bothered or annoyed.
It has been like this since day one.
Last night something difficult happened and, without thinking, I texted my T at 2am in the morning. She responded within five minutes and helped me.
I had never done that before, nor have I thought I ever would, but it happened in an extreme moment of distress. For a minute I felt extremely guilty and had the urge to text her that I was sorry for waking her up. Before I could even send the text she wrote: "And don't even think about telling me you feel bad about reaching out at this time. If you need me, you've got me. I am here. I won't accept anything less than for you to know this!"
I think that was an example of her tough love approach with me. And I learned something: Whereas before this would have been something I would have wanted to bring up in session and talk about why I felt how I felt and why I thought I had to apologize, now I feel it's a closed topic and my "job" is to get over my guilt about this. And knowing this makes me feel so free right now, it's such a relief.
Just wanted to share.
