Attention-seeking.

Being called an attention seeker is probably one of the worst things I have come across. And my friend told me I was one because I was over-excited to show my T my new tattoo (I'm getting it tomorrow right over my heart and I see her Monday). And I admit I like the attention that comes with things like that. I do crave attention, I was always starved of it as a child you know? But I mean it's not the ONLY reason I have, the tattoo symbolizes that I am stronger than I realize, I pulled through the darkest period of my life and I can go through more if I need to because I can do it. I can.

What do you guys think?
Do you ever do something to get attention from your T?

Wanting attention is not unusual. Would you be getting a tattoo even if you didn't want the therapist's attention?
And no, I don't usually want the therapist's attention in this sort of fashion. I expect her to act like she is paying attention while I am there. I would not mutilate myself for her attention.

I don't really consider this "attention seeking" in the way it is usually used. I consider this more of just sharing something with your T that is important to you. I show my T photos or videos of things I've done, I how her things I've made. It's sharing an important part of me with someone that I know will appreciate it.

I don't usually want attention or to have the spotlight on me, so I try to avoid it at all costs, but I do like to share things that are important to me with people that I think will appreciate it.

Yes I'd still get the tattoo, in fact I have tattoos already, this isn't my first. I was just wondering IU tend to self doubt thanks guys!

Its a beautiful tat, are you doing it for you? Or are you doing it to show her? Either way its fine, its how you feel. I think its very beautiful.

I'm doing it for me. To symbolize how strong I am. I love hummingbirds, and butterflies because they are beautiful fragile creatures in a cold hard world, yet they keep on going and survive anything the world throws at them. Much like me! I want it as a reminder that I am strong and I can turn things around.

Hummingbirds are braver than many of the larger birds ! I have lots of them that visit my feeder and they will come up right to my face and check me out!!! A great symbol of hope and bravery. Butterflies are a great symbol for transformation too.

All humans need attention- we are a social animal afterall.
The only thing to watch out for is how far would you go to get it- some ppl believing they don't deserve it/wouldn't get it otherwise are prepared to go to extremes and thus potentially hurting themselves/others.
Getting a tattoo just to get attention? Not that great, but I've seen worse.
Getting a tattoo you want and then show it to others? Pretty much normal, most tats are a bit "attention grabbers" anyway.

BTW, right over your heart? Seriously? What about your breast/nipple?

It is an interesting place to put it, considering you want to "show" it; kind of hidden and in a private place close to your breast and yet you are "excited" to show it instead of just telling T about it and showing her the drawing like you have us. Does T have tattoos or know of yours and "approve"? Have you talked about getting the tattoo or will this be a surprise. "Here, I'm so excited about my tattoo, look at my breast!" and unbuttoning. . .

I think it sounds 'normal' (whatever that is!) and not attention-seeking at all. Just like you want to share this new thing with your T. To me it definitely doesn't sound like you're getting the tat for attention, or making a big kerfuffle of wanting to show it to her.

Sharing parts of yourself is essential for all relationships, or they don't work. I'm guessing it's going to be placed kind of on your breast bone, above your breast as such, so it's going to be mostly visible if you have a V-neck tshirt on? So no undressing involved.
