I'd like to encourage you.
I've recently been able to cut the last tie with my very long term therapist. Yes, it took a massive amount of courage but I knew it was the right thing to do and, afterall, what we'd been working towards from the start. I know therapy isn't the answer for everyone. But when you feel it is: I know from reading posts on this forum that some of you feel discouraged or in pain with therapy and I wanted to write a brief summary here to show you that it can get better and that if you hang in there you will, one way or another, arrive at a stronger, healthier feeling, more accepting and peaceful place. My T and I didn't always see eye to eye. That's an understatement! But I can honestly say that when I look back eight years to when I 'accidentally' began sessions with her I hardly recognise the person who was me then. All of the challenges, all the pain of transference, all the ruptures ![]() At times life and therapy during those eight years felt like a mountain that was more like a vertical wall and too tough to even begin to climb and too painful when I tried. But there came a day when I realised it might have been tough, but somehow I'd discovered I was tougher and had reached the top. It's just an inner feeling and place really of course. But it's worth the climb so be encouraged. |
