Just wanted to share an experience I had in T recently.
There's a person in my past who has been holding a lot of power over me (metaphorically) - I didn't really realise this was the issue with this person until yesterday. The situation I was in with him felt really unresolved and it felt like I was on a loop remembering what happened, trying to process it, not being able to, then remembering what happened again. So in my T session we were talking about this and used imagery to describe how I felt about this person. It wasn't until I described the 'scene' that I really realised the way in which the person from my past was holding me back. When I described it it was literally like he was standing next to me with walls surrounding me, preventing me from moving forwards and reaching the future I actually want. My T asked me to imagine changing the situation in some way to change the shift of power. I did that and since then I have been feeling a whole lot better about the whole thing. The person from my past isn't holding onto me anymore. There's still work to do with what happened to me but at the moment I feel more optimistic that I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Before my last session I didn't even think the light was there. Just wanted to share! Does anyone else use visualisation and imagery in their therapy? |

Yes, my T used this with me, and it was very helpful. It was also more effective with repetition over time. I'm glad it was a good experience for you!

Yes, my t uses imagery all the time. I find it really helps with childhood stuff.
Sounds like you had a really good session and it really helped you silver leaf ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yes my t uses imagery, I'm doing schema therapy so imagery and chair work are the main tools used.
Glad it has helped and made you feel better xx Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Hi lrt1978, I am also in schema therapy! There are not many people who know or have experienced this kind of therapy. How do you like it? My T has just started doing more imagery with me and I love it!

It's very different to therapy I had before, I'm finding it hard as I am having to face things I don't want to face or deal with but it's really interesting and I am starting to understand why I behave the way I do, so finding it a positive experience so far. My next session I think is going to be an imagery session which is on Friday.
Have you done chair work in schema therapy yet ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yeah, I feel the same way! But through schema therapy I have learned that my attachments or different schemas are there for a reason and I'm not crazy for feeling or wanting things!! What exactly is chair work?

It's where you have a couple of chairs, each one is a mode/schema and you move between chairs, speaking what that mode/schema would be saying.
So I done it for critical parent mode, it's where you can confront your schema's, it was good but I do prefer imagery as my eyes are closed xx Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yeah I have never done chair work but it seems like I would prefer imagery. I want to ask my T to do more imagery. I was scared to do imagery when I first did it but then realized how good it was so I'd like to do more of it!
