My therapy sessions are running out in half a year, because insurance here only pays for 2 years therapy.....

Makes me wonder... "should" you be done in 2 years time? Donīt some people need longer, considering their history...???

Makes me wonder if I did something wrong or didnīt try hard enough because I certainly donīt really feel near not needing therapy anymore to become healthy and functioning again.....

After that time insurance will pay for another type of therapy (like CBT)
but not with the same therapist.....

I definitely will not be able to "wait" around for 2 years before I can do therapy again... I donīt want to do this all my life. I want to get to a point where I donīt need therapy and I want to get on with my life

If you should be done in two years, I'm screwed. I've already been in therapy for more than two years. You did nothing wrong. Sometimes people are complicated, and government/insurance rules don't always take that into consideration. Could you arrange to see your T after insurance runs out for a reduced price or something?

Can you try to fight the insurance company? That's what I'm currently doing.

My insurance company thinks adults only need four months of therapy...lolololololol....yeah right. For BPD? Good luck with that.

4 years and it feels like I am only just starting - hope as ScarletPimpernel suggests, you may have a route to fight it.

Well I've been in therapy for 1.5 years and I'm only just getting started. Two years isn't long at all.
Thanks for this!

I donīt think thereīs much hope with fighting them... itīs the general rule where i live I think. All insurance companies give you 2 years with this therapy form.

They think if itīs not sufficient after that time, itīs not the right form of therapy and you should do something else... I dunno

Maybe after 2 years some people may have worked though their issues and maybe some would be "good enough", but it is sad that they are so rigid in thinking everyone would fit into this. Is paying for it privately completely out of the question for you?

2.5 years and though I thought I was done more than once I realize tht I too am just beginning..... I pay out of pocket since t moved and recently cut back to 25 minute sessions to afford it, I actually like them tho, I am more focused than in 50 min sessions.

Thanks for your comments!

I like the 25 minute idea actually, I think it would make both me and my T more foucsed because she tends to babble around and I resign and listen....

Also, I guess itīd be possible for me to pay for like once a month (which is like 50 euros I think if I pay myself) because even after finished therapy, insurance will pay for once per month "consultation" of 50 minutes, so I could be going once every 2 weeks and pay one session each month.

I think this should be doable.

I think what really bothers me a lot MORE is that I feel that I "SHOULD" be ready and finished in this time frame. Also the way my T talked about getting another T for me from a different area, like not wanting to get rid of me after, but..... well... maybe feeling like thereīs nothing she can do for me then or something... I donīt know.
I guess I feel itīs not okay to need "more" sessions, that I am officially finished after that time and if I donīt "feel" that way, then thatīs my problem, me failing therapy or hanging on for wrong reasons... something like that.

Another concern might be.. that I think it could give me anxiety if I payed it myself because it would put me under pressure to "really make use of the time really well" because Iīm paying for it.

Also, I think it might change our relationship because then Iīd actually be "paying" her for her services, but the way it is now, itīs like....
someone needs to pay her, but she doesnīt take my money for being there for me or something like that

I've been in therapy for 25 years. There are no limits, high or low, for how long one "should" be in therapy.

If it can take up to three years to recover from depression, how does insurance figure two? Three is listed, somewhere in the psychology books. Off the top of my head, cannot cite which source (s), but photogenic memory serves me that it may be online.

I sure hope not....I've been in and out of therapy for 7 years!
I pay out of pocket, so I do not have a time limit.
