I usually see T twice a week for 60 minutes, but now that I'm off for the summer, we are going to dive into some pretty intense work, and since I have the time (and am very grateful to be able to afford it)....we are going to have three sessions a week (90 minutes 1 time a week, and 60 minutes twice a week.)

I see pdoc for an hour and half or so either every week or every other.

That's really unfair! If T decides to lengthen a session it cannot be on your account. I think you should mention this to your T.
Thanks for this!

Mine have been 50 minutes ever since I started going in August. Today's was one hour and 40 minutes.

I know!! He usually adds to my time, but this last session he didn't. I will tell him, yes (hopefully..). And the funny thing is I was telling him how 45 minutes is not enough time for me!

My sessions are supposed to be a hour, usually they go over by 15-20mins as my t works from home and there is no one after me.

I agree this is completely unfair and unethical! You are there on time for your appointment and deserve to have a full 45 minutes to yourself. It would not have messed up his entire day to keep you the extra 6 minutes--that's not even running extremely behind! It happens sometimes and there's always a chance of another client not showing up later or running late, which give them time to catch up and get back on track with scheduling. There have been times my T has run 10-20 minutes over but she always gave me my full session, at times even extended since I had to wait so long.

You have every right to be mad, I'm sorry this happened.
Do you plan on discussing this with him?

anywhere from 40-60mins once a week.. I say, that it usually averages 50mins though, if I really paid attention to each of my sessions.

Thanks, Ally! I really want to discuss it with him but I am afraid I will not find the courage to do so. One basic problem of mine (which I know I shouldn't be having, but still) is that I see him on reduced fee. I've been going for 4.5 years, the first 2.5 I payed his full 150 euros per session fee (no insurance here in Greece). He has gradually reduced it so much that I practically see him almost for free. I know he doesn't need the money at, but still I feel bad and this has interfered with my already having a hard time expressing my disappointment. So yes, it's hard for me, but I know it shouldn't..

45-50 min (50 if we go over.) He once kept me for 55 min when I was about to cry but I held back the tears and told him I just wanted to leave at that point. It was nice to know he would give me a few more min if I ever need it again. I'm always the last appointment.

55-ish minutes whenever I have a session. I don't see him very often these days.

THanks for the replies! I'm amazed at some of the long sessions you all have! I mentioned at my appt last week that with so much to work through, 50 min once a week doesn't seem like enough.....but I didn't specifically ask her. In the beginning "getting to know you stage," I just see it going a little slow. Of course I know therapy isnt a quick fix either. I see my T has 10 min between sessions....because I'm usually there when the person before me leaves, and the next one is there when I leave... so I know the opportunity for extra time isn't available, without taking her time. I can't imagine sitting and listening to people talk about their problems all day, and not have a break to regroup. 10 minutes is actually very little! But I also don't know if she works 5 days a week or what.

What I've found myself resorting to doing is communicating by Email also. I take a bit to warm up...and sometimes her questions leave me speechless...just I just don't know the answer to that. So if there are afterthoughts, or if she's given me "homework," I report back via Email, and I also use Email to bring questions up that I forget to bring up during sessions. You can prepare yourself for them, but for me, things change when I enter that room. Sometimes I find my mind going completely blank. Then I get anxious because I'm losing time...blah blah....

Some of my Emails have been rather long, but she told me during our last session "Emails are good." And I know she reads them as she's brought things up I've mentioned. So...that's what I'm trying to do...knowing that if she is unable to answer between sessions, she will address any questions I had via Email during our next session. Works for me!

One time my therapist kept talking and I suspected she would stop us at quarter after the hour because she had been a little late with her last client....and she kept going even after that, and I got really nervous. Asked her if she had a client waiting, and she said no and very nicely told me she could take care of that stuff and not to worry. Then we kept talking until it was really time for her next session, so I basically got a free session.

50 minutes. I really, really wish it was longer sometimes, then other times I feel tired and want to go home.
I know someone who has 2 hour long therapy, which freaks the hell out of me. 2 hours??? Every Saturday???

Let's just say my T is pretty liberal about time constraints, too liberal for many, but it works for me. Sessions have been as short as 30 minutes on days I had nothing to talk about and up to 2 hours on a particularly rough day. Most of the time it's around 50-60 minutes.

45 - 50 minutes 1x week. She has clients before and after me with only a 10 minute break in-between so I try to not go into that 10 minute window. Figure she'd like a break for the bathroom, cup of tea, bite to eat, return calls.... I'm not sure how I'd handle it if we didn't stop when we do, usually I'm the one that ends the session so I'm not sure if I didn't whether she'd go over or not.

50 minutes and she is punctual on start and stop. She has extended her time when I was a couple minutes late, once or twice.

I'm amazed how many people don't have a set time length or regularly go over. I'm not convinced that's actually a good thing.
Thanks for this!
