In ways such as how you think, feel, or what you say? In and out of the therapy room?

Sure, I pay her to influence me, which is to say, I want to learn from her and have her skilled perspective to help me work through my issues. And the things she's taught me are internalized, so that it's a blend of her voice and mine that prompts me to take better care of myself, watch my temper, and have faith that things will work out okay.

Of course. That's part of her job. To influence my life and change things.

I would not imagine so. I pay the woman for information and I may or may not be able to incorporate that information into what I am seeking information on.

Yes, she does. As I learned to become more self aware, I started evaluating every decision I made to see if my thoughts were my own or the influence of hers. I think she mostly uses her influence to get me to believe in myself the way she believes in me.

Yes, I use what I learn in the office out of the office sometimes as I should. It's like her words echo in my mind, and I get it.

No, I don't think my T really influences me; that's not what I'm looking for from therapy. Rather, I use my T as a support system; I go to her in order to feel validated, heard, and cared about. I am good about managing my own life; I don't think I need her help with that. I just need a little softness and support from her; she provides the safe space I never had growing up and still need from time to time.

Yes, but he could influence me a lot more if he wanted to. But he doesn't know that.

I'm starting to let her influence seep in. I try to think about how she would respond to things, or lately, remind myself to "get off the train of thought"... but that's party of what I am looking for in my therapy.

No. My overwhelming feelings for my T haven't influenced me at all.

I think it's more the case that my T models things for me.

I think she opens my mind to thoughts and ideas that are already there but I cannot see for being too close and emotionally attached.....

Hmmm, I am not sure if we understand this thread in the same way... At the beginning I wanted to write similar post to yours, like, of course not, it's not that T says something and then I say "wow, amazing, this is an absolute true and from today till the end of my life I'll follow my T's suggestions" etc. I come, I talk, I listen and I might take some ideas from my T into account but I also might not...
But when I read this thread again, I realized that in my case it wouldn't be true, because the true is that my T influences me, it doesn't meant that I agree with her all the time but it certainly means that I think about the sessions afterwards... If I wasn't in t, I wouldn't think about it, so the impact is there for sure... For instance, once you posted that for first three (? not sure about the right number) years you were throwing up before each session, so I would say that these sessions really had an impact on you, maybe not on your thinking but for sure on your feeling sick... Of course, one could say that it was not your T's influence but just your decision on talking but...
Thanks for this!
