MKAC,

Just wanted to say that having heard a bit more context to your situation that it seems to me you are choosing both the brave and difficult road.

I think it is huge that you've identified that seeing someone new breaks an old and painful pattern for you. It would be easy to become swayed by the powerful mindset that feels like it is always worth it to work through issues with one's therapist. But, it seems to me you've identified a very valid reason why this is legitimate self-care. FWIW when I wrote earlier about seeing a consult therapist, I was coming from a place where my pattern is to bolt and so staying with him and seeing consult T to help break the stasis was my challenge.

In any event, good luck to you. It sounds like you have a good rapport to start with new T. Just be gentle with yourself and if you need to see old T from time to time, don't feel like you've failed in your journey. From what you've said about your interactions, I agree with the others who think that he does have a very real connection with you and genuinely cares about you as a person. He seems to get clumsy in talking about it, but I just have visceral feeling that it is genuine. You seem to have a really strong and accurate sense about what is best for you and I hope you can feel confident in that. I'm rooting for you and will continue to follow your journey.
