Can/does anyone bring their pet to therapy with them? My T has dog treats for clients who bring their dog(s). I don't bring mine, as much as I'd really like to, only because he's so sensitive to my emotions and I don't think it would be good for HIM. One day, when I feel like I'm in a good place, I will probably bring him with me....
Thanks for this!

The building my T is in doesn't allow pets...

But my puppy is 2 lbs. so my T gave me permission to sneak her in for now. But there's an actual purpose too. I have difficulty bonding with animals and I get frustrated raising them because I'm a perfectionist. So, in a sense, I'm learning skills from a puppy

Can we have a puppy pic, please? She sounds adorable!

I wish I could have a dog again, and if I did I'd like to sometimes have said dog with me at sessions.

We've only had her for a week. She's 9 weeks old.

I took my first dog with me to the first therapist I ever saw. She was a puppy and I worked a regular lawyer day at the time and so I felt awful about crating her again just to see a therapist. I would not take my dogs now. And I absolutely do not want the woman's dog there. I did not find my dog useful to be there, it was more just the circumstances. I bond to the pets quite easily and I have had two therapists tell me it is the only area I show softness around. If that is true, I certainly would not take the pet in.

I've taken my dogs before, but current t's office building does not allow pets. There's only 1 of the 3 I could take anyway because she is relatively chill. I've taken one of my snakes once because couple's t was intrigued and wanted to see him.

Yep All 3 of my dogs are sable and white shelties (8 yrs., 2 yrs., and 9 weeks). And my mom owns my 8 yr old's sister from the same litter (a tri). I'm a little obsessed with the breed. My T said if I get any more I'd become a horder. Luckily, city law only allows you 3 max

Sometimes I can't believe how psychic this board can be. In about a month my ex and the girls are going out of town and I have to dogsit my (i still call n=him mine) dog for a couple of days. I have T then but my dog is older, going blind, and exteme anxiety issues. I want to ask me T if I could bring him in jsut for one session as my unit is not pet approved and I know he will bark and whine and I don't want my neighbours complaining. I just now my T has such strict boundaries he may say no. My dog is extremely obedient and will just lie beside the chair the whole session. Or I could cancel my session.

Mine would be just a pain in the butt. First, not taking the cat because it would be a miserable experience for him. But for my dog, she's white and would leave those little white hairs all over T's furniture and be restless the whole time. She'd need to go out once since our sessions are usually long.

So if I want to talk about my pets I just bust out my phone and show him pictures.

I recently got a dog about 2.5 months ago to help me with my fear of leaving the house. I thought about it long and hard since I live with 5 cats and a partner. I knew that this was a huge step and something I couldn't change my mind on two days later. So I did get a dog who is 2 years old and did take him to my appointment with my psychiatrist and support worker, we didn't get much therapy done that day! It has been about 2 months since they saw him and I was asked at my last appointment when would I bring him again. So this Friday I will be bringing Puma with me. I was told he is beagle, pug and bulldog. I can tell you that nose of his is all beagle but that is it... )

These are my babies My cat is my first pet ever and has helped me a lot. My male dog, the one with erect ears, is my first dog ever, and he has helped me heal the most, I believe. He goes through training classes weekly and is extremely well trained. I have wanted to ask about letting him come in session with me, as he will definitely not be a bother, but I have been too scared to ask. My female is too timid to be able to stay still for so long for a session, but hopefully she will be able to get over her fears.

As a side note: Once he gets a vasectomy, we will be doing a lot of competitions. I'm pretty excited to start those, but unfortunately he has to be sterilized (thankfully not neutered) to be able to perform, and I am okay with that, but it delays us of being to enter competitions. At the moment we are biking 15 miles with ease, so he has good endurance. Overall I am just really proud of him!
