By the time we get into the room and I pay her it's usually about 4 minutes past the starting time. This angers me as I feel that I have paid for the full 50 minutes, but I don't want to get into an argument with her or demand that she spend more time with me.

You have every right to tell her that. You are the client and it is your money. There shouldn't need to be any kind of argument, just say "I'm a little bit concerned that we haven't started on time, would it be ok to make up the 5 minutes at the end of the session" or something like that.

Well she is still spending that time with you (technically, assuming she gets you from the waiting room on time)...but why does it take 4-5 minutes to get into the room and for her to take your payment? That seems like a looong time. I think its takes my Ts like about a minute or so...

What does paying the therapist involve? I just toss the money on her table at the end. It takes about two seconds.

I pay at the end and it usually gives me several more minutes. My T is a chatty guy.

I tried to give 5 or so minutes because of differences in clocks. Much after that and it's frustrating. Can you ask her to maybe speed up the process of getting in and getting settled? Perhaps moving payment to the end of session? Or having method of payment out and ready to go as she comes to get you?

I think these two ideas are good. I would suggest having things ready when she comes to get you, so that way she know's you are not trying to waste time and she needs to get on it. Maybe you guys can also start talking when she is taking the money? Also, I remember in my contract it specifically stated that each session was for a total of 50 minutes, to include the time of taking payment and scheduling next appt. So, while my T doesn't stick to this, it may be something 'already disclosed' in writing.

I feel like i can't complain because it's discounted therapy so I am getting a bargain by seeing her at these prices.

You are still entitled to your allotted time, whether it is free, discounted, full price, insurance...whatever.

You are not entitled to "less" because of anything related to finances.

YOU matter and if this continues to cause you distress, you have every right to voice your thoughts.
