This is kind of out of context? Was there any particular reason you wouldn't...?

Nope. Just asking if anyone ever stumped a T with their answer to a silly question.

I don't recall. Probably, though she probably also hides it well.

I've seen a lot of students, so I stump them often... but they do come back later having learned something and phasing that on.

I hate when they do that. The answer is grandparents? Aunts and uncles? Cousins? Holidays and celebrations? You know, normal stuff?? Of course, if h's family isnt normal, then youre stuffed. But its a dumb question, imo.

Yes, often enough.
Just today I was explaining how I would like to have a BF but the RS would have to be without any sex and he quipped so like being married for many years and I said: "Aren't you over-sharing?" (he has been married for ages).

Tried to translate it as better as I could, just doesn't seem natural in English.Oh well, you get the gist...

No I've never stumped T, but what does it prove? I prefer to engage and look at why rather than play 'one upmanship'.

My T asked me one session to define "okay". That stumped me. So at the end of the session, she asked if I was going to be safe. I then asked her to define "safe". She sat there trying to figure out how to define it...lol Touché!

This describes my situation pretty accurately as well. In my case, this is a large part of why I have yet to ever find therapy helpful. I already know what I'm "supposed" to be doing. It just doesn't work because my life never seems to work. So when I was in therapy, it largely consisted of me paying someone to tell me stuff I already knew years ago. I always left thinking, "I just paid someone to tell me THAT? I could have read the same thing on Google. In fact, I *have* read the same thing on Google." I think the therapists get frustrated too, then, because they run out of tools to use on me pretty quickly, kind of like when you go to the doctor for chest pain that turns out to have no obvious answer or solution. At first, the doctor is eager to try out a bunch of tests to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it. Then after a while, when the tests come back negative and their usual treatment methods fail, you become an annoyance of a patient if you keep coming back.
Thanks for this!

When I say I stump my T, it's not something I intentionally do to 'catch' her ... It's just that I don't seem to fit into a specific protocol.

It wasn't about oneupmanship. Isn't "why not" a reasonable answer to having a relationship with family members? I just thought it was a strange question.

I cant be sure, when my T gets caught in a moment she just goes in to silent mode.
Mind you it might give me a laugh later if she ever became tongue tied.

Yep....and it was funny! One day he didn't want to answer one of my questions(i think he wanted me to do it for myself of course) and asked me another question instead, i was a bit irked.... so I asked him why he always answered my q's with a q, and he responded with another question(and a bit of a grin) and so it went on for another 3 or 4rounds of each of us answering with q's. Him bursting out laughing after I said I could go on and on........ and

He caved and responded!

He doesn't fall for that anymore............
